Default Who gets voted off the Island - and who gets PP1 time

Trying to figure out the Islanders starting 6 and who will get top PP1 minutes - and thus lots of points thanks to the highscoring Johhny T and crew.

I own Hamonic, but he has not yet shown he is a top PP guy. Now we have Reinhart and De Haan and Visnovsky and Hickey, and even TJ Brennan (AHL defenceman of the year). So, who wins the PP sweepstakes; is Hamonic worth keeping in a limited keeper league (see sig below); and which young puck moving D-man does not make the team?

Looking forward to your thoughts and thanks.
14 team standard yahoo keeper league (82 games for 4C, 4RW, 4LW, 6D, and 1G). 23 man roster. No farm.
    Plyer Cats = G, A, P, PPP, SHP, GWG, FW, HTS, BLKS, SH%, PIM's
Goal Cats = GAA, SV%, SHTS, W, and SO

C - Getzlaf, Toews, Stamkos, Giroux, B. Nelson
RW - P. Kane, Coyle , Nyquist, Dubinsky
LW - L. Eriksson, Pacioretty, Kreider, Schwartz
D - Faulk, Klinberg, Brodie, Dekyser, Vatannan, Despres, Daley, Pouliot
    G - Crawford, Allen, Dubnyk

    My bet:
Tavares, Okposo, Nelson and Nielsen to start the season.
Visnovsky will be the d-man on the unit if he is healthy to start the season and he will remain there until he gets hurt.
    Then ??? who knows.
The Isles had BRUTAL special teams last year (due to coaching) and Weight is back running special teams so it could be another gong show.
    At least MacDonald is gone.
I don't see Hamonic ever being much of a point producer, though.
Donavan and Brennan are the obvious offensively skilled blueliners, but I doubt either one is on the opening day roster (not top 6 anyways).

If you have half-an-hour to kill this guy does a great job dissecting the Isles PK. Basically shows how clueless the coaching staff is.

The top line will be Nelson-Tavares-Okposo to start.

Clueless is being kind. I don't see Hamonic as a top PP dman.

Doug Weight couldn't run a PP as a player, now his job is to do it as a coach?? Come on Garth, get a PP specialist in there..

This is a tough question.. Does Hamonic step up?? Does De Haan show his stuff?? Donovan?? Brennan?? Tough calls here..

I could easily see de Haan sneaking into some powerplay time. The kid is really bright and an excellent hockey player. The Islanders are going to be much better this season and I find it tough to believe they won't be at least marginally better on special teams.

I wouldn't bank on Hamonic getting any consistent PP time. I'm a big fan of the player and his game, but unfortunately he's no more than a PP2 type guy AT BEST.

Do you mind telling us if this is just a hunch? My pick to play on the top line is still Anders Lee.

As for about Hamonic, I agree he'll be on PP2 most of the time next year, but I still think he has the potential to be a solid multicat guy with some good offensive upside. Given your scoring stats, I think he's worth keeping.

Read it in a few spots, including Friedman's most recent 30 Thoughts:

    17. With a glut of centres, Capuano said that Brock Nelson is going to get a shot at the wing with John Tavares (who is skating again) and Kyle Okposo. Nelson played with them on the power play and spent time on the wing at the world championships.

Capuano talks about a lot of stuff here, too:

    http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/crai...e/post?id=3666

including deHaan running the 2nd PP. He will run the Isles PP one day, but he is needed elsewhere too much right now (with Hamonic) and the Isles don't want another overworked ineffective d-managain this year (like MacDonald last year). Maybe when Griff is ready to carry the tough match-ups in a few years, deHaan will fully break out (it will happen one day).

I tried reading that article earlier this morning and it was behind a paywall. These guys and their 1960s model of "journalism" - they are going to die a slow death unless they change things.

Visnovsky gets the PP1 time, DeHaan and Donovan get PP2 time, Hamonic gets all the tough minutes because they'll need him for that more than anything else.

Yea that's how I see it with frans Nielsen at the point on PP1.

The only question mark is if Visnovsky is healthy or not. If he is, he will get hurt at some point during the season, then what?

Any rumblings that Nielsen might get traded before the season starts?

Bailey and Donavan are the names you hear most, but Frans will net the best return. His name his been tossed about in discussions on boards and rumor sites, but I've never heard anything solid. Also keep in mind he's a little older than Bailey (30 I believe) and it does make sense. I just think he brings so much to the table, nothing flashy, but so solid...he would be hard to replace. My best guess is the Isles wait for camp so they can assess the defense, then if they feel they need a top 3 dman they make a move, if not they wait it out. They solved their goalie issues without having to make a trade and that was the #1 priority over the summer.

minor league style coaching staff so its hard to gauge if they can get it right .

maybe they'll ask JT who he wants on the pp and take it from there .

I only asked because there had been some (unreliable) buzz regarding Edmonton showing interest. They absolutely could use a guy like him for their second line but I don't know what assets they could move to get the deal done/ A guy like Petry perhaps, but I don't see him as good enough to warrantthe Islanders moving Nielsen, who is really solid at everything.
