    Default Logan Couture peak

The kid appears to keep getting better and better. Once considered a good 2-way player, he is now emerging into a star player. What does everyone think he realistic offensive upside and peak is going to be?

I think he has 75 pt potential. I don't think he's a PPG player, but just under with good stats. A great character guy too. He's turning into my favorite on the Sharks real fast.

Think Henrik Zetterberg without the 90p season. Couture might top 80p in his best seasons, but more often than not will finish at about 70 points. He'll be a shoot first type of player who'll be creating his own offence. Also he'll be a top tier two way player and will elevate his play to a whole new level in the playoffs. He'll never win the Art Ross trophy, but he just might have one Conn Smythe trophy heading his way in the future.

That's how I see his future anyway.

Couture is peaking this year so I took advantage after hanging on to him for many years to trade him for Shattenkirk. He doesn't seem to be able to ever produce more then 70 points per season or he would have been doing so already.

I don't see why he couldn't be a point per game player.. I haven't seen anything negative in his game of late.. He seems to be growing, and his team seems to be rallying around him..

If the Sharks ever lose any of their key older guys via trade or free agency, you may be able to peg him as a ppg player, due to bigger role. Obviously he still needs talent around to achieve solid stats, but biggest role means biggest numbers.

That seems a little premature in my mind - the kid has just turned 24 and has played three seasons. Some players take longer to hit their peak, but even if that's not the case, I'd at least wait for that magical fourth year.

    1/2 season in AHL: 42 gp, 20-33-53
Extended cup of coffee: 25 gp - 9 pts
    1st full season: 79 gp - 32-24-56
    2nd season: 80 gp - 31-34-65
lockout year: Swiss league: similar ppg to Nash, Spezza, Thornton
NHL - 37 pts in 48 games, 63 pt pace
NHL playoffs so far: 4-6-10 in 7 games

So we're basically seeing a 14% jump after year one, and then at least maintenance of those numbers over a confusing season full of adjustments. Add in the fact that Jumbo Joe and Marleau are on the decline and Clowe is out - Joe, Marleau and Pavelski are all UFA after next season at this point. This team could be built around Couture in the not too distant future.

I'm not saying he's a shoe-in for huge numbers, because he's not. But he's shown success at every level, and I don't see why he would necessarily hit 65 in his second year and then just never improve, even as TOI and PP time open up and he is relied on more and more for offense. Personally I see him having numbers around or a touch higher than Loui Eriksson in his best seasons. 69-75, with an 83 thrown in there that one year everything works.

    Jon Toews-lite.
    NHL value = A, fantasy value = B.

Couture has slowly become one of my very favourite NHL players (by real NHL value).
I think he'll settle in as a consistent high 60s to low 70s player.

In leagues where he is "C" only... this means that he's really not of huge value.
If he had a wing-status, he'd have much better fantasy-value.

As for his peak... if somebody gave me an over/under of 80... I'd take the under.
If somebody gave me an over/under of 75... I'd take the over.

So... I'd guess I'll put his NHL best season at about 78pts.

    I'm with Pengwin.

Toews is an 80-90 guy, could be 90+, but he is so responsible (always the low guy back and the last forward out of the zone).

Same applies to Couture, but probably 10-15 points less.

I'm thinking along the lines of you guys as well, just wanted some outside perspective. Moving forward, I feel the "standard" year for him would be like 34G/35A/69Pts. or so.

I'm going to go a bit higher than you 3 and say he should settle around 75-80 points consistently with a few years around 85.

It seems to me that every year he is a fairly big fantasy topic because he keep exceeding expectations. Thornton isn't getting any younger either which will naturally push Couture into more of a scoring roll. My only concern is that the Sharks is how good Niemi is. They have been and probably will continue to play a tighter checking game.
