Default Ovechkin for Seguin + Strome

    Hey guys,

Back in September, I was approached by the Ovechkin owner about a trade.

Because of the lockout, we never went any further than Ovechkin for Seguin +, without getting into what the + could be.

I'm bored and want to revive our talks. I suspect he'd want the throw-in to be substantial and was thinking of offering Strome.

I'm still not completely sold on Strome and figure with him leading the OHL this is as good a time as any to trade him.

This is for league in sig, so points-only.

I'd be surprised if that's all it took, but worth a shot. I'd definitely be looking for more than Strome if it was me.

I'd be surprised if the OV owner was THAT sold on Strome to accept this. Much more likely he'll just roll his eyes and ignore your message. I think he's more likely to e.g. ask for Seguin and Getz - that's more realistic IMO.

I think you will have to add a little more to make this trade happen. This is a good starting point though. I would offer this to begin with and wait for him to counter you.

It's a pretty fair deal... though I'd go with Ovechkin.

In points-only, an 80pt Seguin really ain't that far off a 85/90pt Ovechkin (who I see more as an 85pt player).

I really don't think Strome has much value in a 12-team, 11F pool until probably 2015.
If it was Seguin + Eriksson (or something, then I like it).

Not a bad deal at all, I'm a huge fan of Seguin.

Strome just doesn't do it for me, I'd want a better prospect if I was trading away Ovechkin.

I'd need more than that to move Ovechkin.

A lot are saying it's not enough for Ovechkin but not everyone has the balls to put up with his down years. I think this offer is a solid starting point.

    Agreed.

Seguin is, to steal from Zoolander, so hot right now.

20 goals in 20 games in teh Swiss League. I know it ain't the NHL, but that's still impressive.

And if I had a choice in a points-only keeper, it would be a tough call b/c I was just telling a buddy I think Seguin will be the next guy to randomly hit 90pts. They guy that, 55 games into the season, you're going "shit, he's gonna hit 90".

I know Ovechkin has been there, but Seguin is pretty durned good.

Adding Strome may or may not get it done but this, to me, is a really good starting point.

strome is not enough to add to get OV unless the OV manager is realy soured on his sub-par season. this may be the case so send an offer out and see what happens.its not too low of an offer to be considered an insult. imo.

Worst case, it gets declined. But I would do it if I had the opportunity to get OV.

    Thanks for all the responses.

Ok, at least it's pretty clear nobody thinks it'd be a bad deal for me.

Not sure why I'm having such a hard time pressing "send" on this one.

I am a big fan of Seguin's and enjoy seeing him play. Plus, though Ovechkin's certainly not old, I'm not loving that 7 year gap between the two players.

If I do send out the offer, I'll post back with his response.

Well, let me be more direct then.

If I had Seguin in a points-only, I wouldn't trade him for OV....at least not without some very serious thinking.

And that 6,7 year gap (whatever it is) is a factor, for sure.

I would swap my Seguin for Ovechkin every single day of the week

Since we are looking forward here, let's consider the upside and downside of both:

    Seguin: downside 67, upside 100?
Ovechkin: downside 65, upside 112 (something he has already done)

Ovechkin is 27 but that doesn't mean he doesn't have the same probability of hitting his sky-high potential as Seguin. I kind of like the idea of banking on someone who has been there before.
