I don't think breaking Lupul's arm helped him any lol.
I've watched a few games and he has been pretty bad. Granted, the Leafs goalies have been letting in some soft ones, but his defensive play has been horrible.
When you lose 5-2 (against the Rangers) and you go -4 there is something wrong.
He was matched up against Richards-Nash-Gaborik, and he's out there with Kostka or Liles. Ya he's going to be a minus.

Yeah, I can see that to some degree the table is set for him to take a beating on the +/- side. Would be nice to see it offset with some offensive production though.
Phaneuf logs huge minutes, kills penalties, is on the man advatage, is a leader etc.
What more do we expect out of him??
We expect him to do all that but....a lot better.
As eyemissgilmour said, he is overated.
