That was just a smoke screen to convince people it doesn't apply. Proof that a conspiracy doesn't exist is usually planted by the conspirators. Oldest trick in the book. In fact, the more games you find where the Leafs didn't get a late 3rd period powerplay when trailing the more likely it is that they are getting help.
If you never see it happen then you can pretty much guarantee that it happens all the time.

yup...the Habs haven't beat the Leafs yet this season, that game was 2-1 Leafs, though it actually ended on a Habs PPG...in fact all the goals in that game were PPGs for the record
All pointless dick measuring aside, this one is actually really easy to prove/disprove.
Just go through all the games decided by 2 or less goals last year and check the box score for how many powerplays were awarded to the trailing team in the 3rd across the league. Then check the same number for the Leafs... and a simple test for statistical significance will tell you if there is a correlation or not.
Not hard but time consuming... (well, harder that typing "No you're wrong!" back and forth I suppose)
