Default Who are your hidden gems??

In one of my leagues, we are currently running a draft for FA's who have "0" NHL GP. I know its hard to answer this without seeing everyones roster and minor league systems, but I was wondering if anyone wants to throw out any names of guys who may have seemed far away last year but had solid years and could actually be worth picking up.

    I will give some examples.

Sean Kuraly was a player who was taken last year in the 5th round by SJ and really wasnt on anyones radar until his recent performance at the US Jr Evaluation Camp. I realize hes still a few years away but is now on peoples radar.

After reading the daily ramblings on the front Dobber page, Angus mentions Sami Vatanen as a good possibility to make the Ducks this year. He would be a guy most would consider "flying under the radar" in a lot of leagues.

So who are your hidden gems that you have either recently picked up or are watching and looking to scoop up?

Patrick maroon from anaheim, might get a few looks this year and is a big power forward.

Sgarbossa especially is one to look out for. He could make the team outta training camp. Improving every year, coaches love him. Finished top scorer in the O last year.

I like Angus's list. You could even add - Damien Brunner (Det) / Tyler Johnson (Tbl) & Michael Latta (Nsh)

Good list, I also like Reilly Smith and Austin Smith from Dallas.

Matej Stransky is yet another Dallas player I like, although it will be another year (or two) before he starts getting any NHL talk. Nikita Kucherov could be a good choice....last summer no one knew if he was interested in the NHL, now he's playing next season in the QMJHL. Real nice upside.

Eric Gelinas, Taylor Fedun, and Paul Postma (he has 4 GP maybe not eligible) are some potential surprises at defense.

Thanks for the names boys. So far, from all the names provided, only Kyle Rau and Austin Smith are available in my league to be taken.

My league is a 20 team league where we can own up to 25 prospects per team. Not every team is full of prospects but most are so its hard to scrape up a good one but every once in a while one will slip through the cracks.

I have managed to snag Martin Gernat and Sean Kuraly (long shot but I am hoping he is on the right path after his great development camp for the USJR) so far.

So far my prospects list looks like this:

    1)Bulmer, Brett (RW)
    2)Bunz, Tyler (G)
    3)Calvert, Matt (LW)
    4)Donovan, Matt (D)
    5)Dumoulin, Brian (D)
    6)Faksa, Radek (C)
    7)Gernat, Martin (D)
    8)Hamilton, Curtis (LW)
    9)Hartikainen, Teemu (LW)
    10)Jenner, Boone (C)
    11)Johnson, Tyler (C)
    12)Josefson, Jacob (C)
    13)Koekkoek, Slater (D)
    14)Kuraly, Sean (C)
    15)Lack, Eddie (G)
    16)McNabb, Braydon (D)
    17)Murray, Matthew (G)
    18)Murphy, Ryan (D)
    19)Omark, Linus (LW)
    20)Pageau, Jean Gabriel (C,RW)
    21)Prince, Shane (LW)
    22)Shore, Drew (C)
    23)Thomas, Christian (RW)
    24)Vasilevski, Andrei (G)
    25)Zuccarello, Mats (LW)

I dont know if I would drop any of the guys I currently own for Rau or Smith. That will be my delimma. Since I am at my limit, I would have to drop one to take one now.

I have rep'd you for your efforts. Much appreciated.

I'd probably drop Pageau for Smith. Smith is a pretty sure bet to make the NHL at least as a third liner. Pageau's size issues and the fact that Ottawa has a lot of guys ahead of him (Zibanejad, Stone, Silfverberg, Noesen, Puempel, Prince, etc) makes him expendable in my opinion.

Interesting thought. I'd like to think I could trade him for a better asset then Smith though. I could be wrong, but I would rather try that route then simply dropping him.

Always looking for gems. I like some names already mentioned. I think I have some in my prospects that were named and others that were not. I remember finding Nieto before a lot of people here knew who he was, and I can't tell you how many people responded with: "Matt who?" and then told me to drop the guy. This has happened to me before with other players, too. So, in some cases, i've been ahead of the curve of popular consensus. I just say that to say, they are out there and you can find them, and don't think you do not have one if people don't know who they are; otherwise, he may not be a gem. Even still, they are prospects and we don't know if they are gems until they actually pan out in the NHL ;-)
