Default Very slim chance on Boyle to NYI

There's reportedly "a very slim to no chance" that Dan Boyle signs with the New York Islanders.

Andy Strickland reports that the veteran defenseman wants to play for a contending squad at this stage in his career. However, he still plans to give New York a fair look before he is able to test the market on July 1. The Islanders acquired Boyle's rights from San Jose for a conditional 2015 fifth-round draft pick last week.

The only way Boyle signs with the NYI is if he gets absolutely no viable offers from a contender that will give him a reasonable salary or length of deal. Since it's a good possibility that at least one team will offer him a 2 yr deal worth $5 mil per, it's very doubtful he signs with NYI unless Garth Snow's offer is downright filthy rich.

In that case he should bypass Snow and negotiate with the owner. It worked for Ricky D.

Long Island is a pretty good place to raise a family if you have a secure income and don't mind driving everywhere. Having lived there for a year, its not for me but I can see why others would like it there.
Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.

I would consider NYI a playoff contending team. Halak in goal looks good, Tavares and Okposo were good. Strome and a top 5 pick this yr. New arena too, in a nice city that has an area that’s nice for kids to grow up. The fans are good when the team shows up to play. They have a lot of cap space left, so maybe a few FA acquisitions would help. They needed a D-man and they tried to get Boyle. I can see NYI battling for a wild card spot.

If Isles can get get him on a decent deal, then they are a contender. The probably know by now what there chances are of signing him.
