i dont want to read the review yet since i want to watch the movie. can you just tell me if sean william scott was any good in it? no spoilers please
There are plenty of classic sports movies. Rudy, Field of Dreams, Hoosiers and Rocky are some of the best of all-time. When it comes to hockey movies, none have been very successful. Perhaps the hockey movie with the highest accolades is Miracle, but the best “hockey” movie ever made is Slapshot. The biggest challenge in making a hockey movie is the audience; do you make it for hockey fans, or movie fans?

I was very mindful to not give anything away that was was not basically in the trailer. My review is a safe read, no Darth Vader is Lukes dad, no crying game chick is a man spoilers!
To answer your question tho, yes Seann William Scott was brilliant!

I saw it and liked it. Sort of a guilty pleasure but there were some hysterical lines in it. Definitely not towards the top of the hockey movie chain though. Slap Shot, Youngblood, Mystery Alaska and Miracle are still tops. I'd even add Rocket, Net Worth, Mighty Ducks and the Don Cherry Story ahead of it on the list. Worth seeing though for the humor.

I saw it yesterday and it was a lot better than I expected. We all understand why enforcers exist but it was a fresh point of view watching from their prospective. It wasn't a bad guy movie compared the alternatives at the theatre right now.

I've been waiting to watch it myself, good to hear that its a good watch, I don't expect it to be a masterpiece but I wouldn't really call Slapshot a masterpiece either but I still love that movie. I think my favorite hockey movie is still The Rocket though, great flic
watched it tonight actually, its a little predictable and by the numbers but enjoyable nonetheless, definitely worth checking out if you love hockey
Big fan, have seen it 3 times now. Definitely predictable, but there are some great hockey tropes and interesting easter eggs for hardcore fans in there. Real enjoyable. Also a tremendous movie to throw on while you down a few beers and get ready to go to a game.

saw it on the weekend... admittedly a little foggy due to drowning my misery during the Van-Mon game before hand but it exceeded expectations. I may have to watch it again sober though

I really loved this movie, finally saw it a couple of months back and when dmfitz mentioned it in the B movie thread it reminded me how much I loved it.
Holds a little extra something special for me being from Nova Scotia and having lived in Halifax though.
Funny extra, they show chicky's phone number on the screen at one point on Doug's cell. My roomate called it as it was an actual NS number. Went to voicemail but on her voicemail it said, "If you are calling because of the movie Goon, this is not Eva". I thought it was hilarious that she had a good enough sense of humor to say that.
Without me, it's only "aweso".
Goon was surprisingly very good....highly recommend it
