Exactly. No I don't have any information if this is a minor or major concussion... But you gotta figure the Pens are thinking about the "big picture" here. And our fantasy hockey teams and playoff battles are not part of their vision. I would start thinking about your plan "B". I hope I'm wrong though...

You never know with concussions. So anything we say is pretty meaningless. Given it's his second of the year, and they have first in their div locked up, I am going to go ahead and say it's unlikely. No point in rushing him. Even if he could return in the next few weeks, they will give him an extra week+ to make sure he is good to go for playoffs.

Any updates on Neal's return? Wondering if I should drop him and pick up a lesser player who will play more games down the stretch. Just got burned dropping Hossa though and watching my rival pick him up in time to benefit from his 3-point game last night.

James Neal also out on the ice for practice this morning. It's so nice to have so many #Pens players back together!

I'm not a doctor, nor have any knowledge of the degree of his concussion, but that seems stupid fast. If you are formally diagnosed with a concussion, can't help but imagine you should take over a week off. I don't see the point of rushing it.

I've had concussions (many of them) and have had to stop participating in all contact sports because of them. The common protocol is too avoid all physical activity until you have been symptom free for a period of time (say 3 days) and then you go out and try some mild exertion (like light skating) to see if the symptoms recur. Following that, you then ramp up your activity level and as long as symptoms don't recur, you could resume full activity.

I'm not saying that Neal will be back, but participating in the practice is a good sign. As long as he doesn't have any symptoms, he might be back sooner than we originally thought. That said, if he has any symptoms, he'd be back to full rest for another period of time before trying again.

    Great news!

Could this possibly have been over-diagnosis at the beginning about Neal having a concussion?
I agree with everyone about not rushing him back and taking the time off but if he is back super quick maybe he didnt have a "c-word" (BMS reference anyone)? in the first place?
    Thoughts?

I can think of one reason Mr. Neal. Your team doctors lol.

Did he even do a baseline test?

As many posters already said, thought it was min a week off and then baseline test and then go.. I suppose they did all that and certainly if any doctors have experience with concussions, it's PIT team doctors.

Welcome back , Mr. Neal...? I say take your time though, buddy.

If you prescribe to the belief that there are different levels or grades of concussions, it is entirely conceivable that Neal suffered what is commonly referred to as a "minor" or "mild" concussion. If he did in fact have a mild concussion, it is possible to be fully recovered from a concussion in a week or so.

So now what? Do I re-aquire him for the impending playoffs in my one year league, or is he better left on the wire?
