And this is why I'm not winning this pool. I'll take 2nd though.

    Interesting bump-stat of the day.

There are 736 entries in the Dobber Hockey Playoff Pool 2014.

Of those 736, only 36 (5%) selected Henrik Lundqvist!

I also did a quick review of the top 25 teams, where only three do NOT have Crosby from box 1.
A couple Getzlafs and a Krejci pick.

In 1st - Pfunk has a slew of Canadiens. If MON wins tonight, he'll become a Vegas favourite by a good margin. (I'm "Vegas" here, teehee).
In 11th - Keeping Karlsson (208pts) is the highest team w/o Crosby. He's riding Getzlaf - but strangely, unwisely, has only one other ANA player (Fowler) and FIVE LA players... why?

    I love watching this race.
Still tight... with 71 teams at 200+... chasing the leader at 219.

As a Pengwin mathematical follow-up to this pool:
*In large entry pools (over 100 people), you've got to pick a team that is different enough from other teams to assure you a shot at winning. And an entry has to (HAS TO) go "all in" on their division finalist picks.
*For this reason, a team can't pick "some LA guys and some ANA guys". Why? Because that team will get beat by somebody going "full LA" or "full ANA", whichever team wins the series and plays on.

The odds of randomly picking the winner from a division is 1 in 4. 25%.
And the odds of randomly picking the winner from two divisions is 1/4 x 1/4 = 1/16 = 6%.
And the odds of randomly picking the winner from three divisions is 1/4^3.. = 1/ 64 = 1.5%.
And the odds of randomly picking the winner from four divisions is 1/4^3.... = 1/ 256 = 0.4%.

    Well... 1 in 256....
If there are about 750 people in a pool... it means that... just randomly... THREE entries are going to pick ALL FOUR division winners correctly - evidenced by their player picks.

So... an entry can't afford to pick 2 ANA players and 5 LA players... gotta go "all in" to be in that small pool of people that picked it perfectly.

This year - I'm going to take a deep look at the top three finishers - and what they did "right" over everybody else.
    Interesting.

Back up to 16th now, 18 points behind the leader. 4 Blackhawks left, 6 Kings, 5 Habs, and only 1 Ranger (Stepan).

Ah well it was a fun league regardless, never done a playoff box pool if you can believe that haha.

Who is Pfunk in this pool?
There are 700+ entries and this guy has just run away with it... like 14pts up on 2nd place!
    Incredible!

It ain't me that is for sure - I choked in the East with my picks - really thought the Pens would go much deeper. Pleased to say I still have a shot at a top 10% finish though with my remaining 9 players being all Kings. Fun as always!

Not going to win but challenging for a top-20 finish is pretty cool.

Arg. 51st for me. Nothing to write home about but I guess I'll take it. Quite impressed at how far ahead 1st place is from 2nd.

Happy to say that I'm 662nd! And, if my last player remaining gets 180 points tomorrow, I win!
