    Default Joni Pitkanen heel surgery

    Update from the Hockey News-

    News
Joni Pitkanen (heel surgery) is progressing well in his rehab and is optimistic about his recovery.
    Raleigh News & Observer

    Impact
Pitkanen underwent the procedure during in mid-April. GM Jim Rutherford says the mobile defenseman is on schedule and it appears he'll be able to participate in training camp on some level. That said, this is an injury worth monitoring considering Pitkanen's skating ability is a huge part of his game. We'll be watching to see how he's recovering in camp before setting a draft value.

According to Pitkänen's wife, he's done. As in, forced to retire.

    Only in Finnish.

Take it with a grain of salt, but that's the rumor.

Yeah, like I said, it feels a bit sudden. Pitkanen's too young to just give up immediately. I would imagine he'd try a bunch of different treatments and whatnot before calling it quits.

Haven't heard any news yet about him being done. The latest I could find is that the Canes are waiting for the results of his scan:

I feel for the guy. It would suck to have an injury, roughly 5 months ago, and STILL be unable to put weight on it. That is not looking good.

#Canes captain Eric Staal said he's very concerned about Joni Pitkanen, who had CT scan on heel. Worry is about Pitkanen's career.

Can't find the link but I think I read somewhere that another player had this type of injury that Pitkanen has and it ended that player's career.

    Found it!

Wow. That's really sad. Peake can't even walk the length of the mall.

BTW I really dodged a bullet. I also took him in a trade. Recently.

Canes GM Jim Rutherford says Joni Pitkanen will miss season

    Chip Alexander ‏@ice_chip
Rutherford said CT scan showed initial surgery was successful. But the stability was not there when Pitkanen tried to put weight on heel.

I was almost waiting for this announcement. Oh well he might be more useful to me for the whole year on the IR!
