    Default To: Robin Lehner Owners

Just a heads up to Robin Lehner owners out there. Lehner has come into prospect camp a "new man". He is apparently "cut" at just 205 lbs, down from 220 and maybe even a lot more in his previous years. He's also more mature, and poised to battle Ben Bishop for a back-up spot at main camp.

Interview with new bad-ass Lehner at the bottom of the page:

That's a guy who means business right there.

That is quite possibly the worst business card I have ever seen.

I picked him up last year on a team with no goalie depth and in the midst of a rebuild. After watching him a few times and reading the scouting on him I couldn't be happier. I am glad he is taking his fitness seriously. The Sens have a great opportunity in the next couple of years to become a mainstay atop the league.

Backup? I expect him to steal the #1 Job from Andy b4 year end.

i was not overly impressed by Bishop last season. He was solid but nothing more.
Thanks for the Info Ev. Much appreciated!

    Love the new badass Lehner!

I got Lehner back last year as a "toss-in" in a deal where I gave up Hossa, Briere & Downie. Couldn't be happier to have Badass Lehner on board now, especially with Timmy Thomas dropping The Bomb on me, lol! The 3-Headed Goalie Monster of Lu/Bryz/Thomas that has led me to back-to-back championships, has suddenly become Lu, Bryz, and throw-the-rest-together with Harding and Bobrovsky.

Hurry, Badass Lehner, I need you!

Just to toss a flip side on this, I wouldn't say that cutting so much weight is necessarily a good thing. With how much goalies sweat each game it is important to have water and energy reserves. That means a certain number of fat cells. Lehner is also used to moving around at 220. This may make him faster but it could also mess with his timing. I could definitely see this having a positive impact in training camp but I would be concerned about endurance issues over the course of a full season.

Of course, there are not too many negatives in a player showing a dedication to his body and his craft. I still see him as a blue chip guy. I just don't like the idea of a player's value swinging tremendously because of weight loss since there are so many other aspects to the game.

Jimmy Howard took his game to another level after he dropped 15-20 pounds one summer.

Maybe, but the org is very happy with Lehner's weight loss and improved maturity level.

I have Lehner on my farm and I can tell you this - even before this article, bring the money if you want him or he stays home with Daddy.
