    Default This Sean Monahan Kid

I mean all the early season talk has been of Hertl's heroics, but like many young players, he's streaky - scoring 4 one game, then 0 points the next.

Monahan on the other hand, has been consistent and (relatively) quiet about it - now having his 4th goal in as many games on a team that isn't supposed to be nearly as good as San Jose.

I'm thinking Calder if he keeps this up.

Young Monny is legit. Most underrated player at the top of the draft last year. People will be kicking themselves for taking Nichuskin over him in fantasy.

Most definitely starting hot but no way is he sustaining a 30% shooting average.

Attached above is a link to a great write-up about Monahan yesterday by Tom Collins in the forensics column.

With no power play time and averaging around 13 minutes a game, he has been very good. Six points in five games - impressive. Of note, his TOI has increased every game.

I can see how Cammalleri bumps him down the depth chart upon return, but Stajan, meh. Hopefully they keep the kid up. The flames will have no choice if he continues to play this way.

Okay, a goal and an assist tonight. Both great plays by the rookie. Add in some great defensive play and positioning.

I can't see how they don't keep him up for the year. A travesty if they don't. He looks like he belongs out there, on both ends of the ice.

While I agree that Cammaleri will bump Monahan down the depth chart a bit, is there anyone else on that team that could do that? I don't think so. The kid has got to stay. And if Calgary wants to keep him for longer than his ELC, sign him to a long term contract as soon as possible. Tomorrow even. Hockey IQ like his doesn't grow on trees.

I would keep him around. Dump Cammy, and hand the keys to the kid.

There is pretty much 0 risk they would lose him after his ELC.

Cammy can go back to wing as Monahan is playing well at centre.

What I meant was that they could sign this kid today, and not regret it ten years from now. I need to work on being clearer.

The Flames have no chance at being good this year, so why waste a season of his ELC and put him 12 months closer to becoming an RFA/UFA?

Line of thinking doesn't make sense. If it's better for him to develop in the NHL then it doesn't matter how bad the team is or what his current contract situation is. He stands to gain nothing by going back to the OHL.

It is not wasting a season of his ELC, at all.

Yeah there is something to be said about playing against guys who are better than him and that he can learn from since he's already adjusting pretty well to the NHL game.

Going back to junior and playing against lesser players and dominating them can only hurt him IMO, if he's already shown that he can handle the NHL (which I think he has in his short stint so far, at the very least he looks like he's not completely out of place).

I think if he does get sent back it'll be just another classic case of mismanagement from the Flames.
