Default Mikael Granlund to sign ELC with the Minnesota Wild this week

Granlund's contract is being finalized and should get done this week.

According to Granlund's agent, the word is he'll be playing on the 1st line with Mikko Koivu next year. Just give him the Calder already

Sounds like the agent is strongly hinting that he better play on the top line or else...

Coaches change lines so often, that will last about 3-4 games if he's lucky.

Kid looked tired at the WHC and pretty much hit a wall after the WJC shootout fail. Some nice R&R should be in order in the summer.

    Any point predictions? 50ish, imo.

Where he plays will depend a lot what happens this year in free agency and also depend on the inevitable injuries that will occur for the Wild. Oh and how healthy Bouchard is at the beginning of the season. So many possibilities with their top six right now, but he will get some playing time with Koivu during the season, it probably won't be consistent though.

Here's a hypothetical question for you guys: if Granlund doesn't sign a contract by june 1st he goes back into the draft, he will sign but lets pretend he doesn't, where does he go in this year's draft?

He could go anywhere in the top 5, maybe even #1 overall.

Man that would throw quite the wrench in the draft. He'll get signed, though. I think that team will be tough to play against in 2 years with Coyle coming up as well.

IF he went into the draft. Why wouldn't the oilers take him. Is he not a center? I could be wrong but I thought he was. Oilers could use a good center behind the Nuge. They have plenty of wingers. I'm just sayin....

They also need a D-man, but that's irrelevant. Yakupov is on a different level than Granlund.

They don't need a Dman. They need several dmen.

Yea, Larsson is no slouch either and I think he'll be there in 2 years as well as Brodin.

Add Granlund, Larsson, Brodin, and Coyle to the mix and you have a much different lineup. Zucker isn't far off either...

In a few years, assuming no FA signings and no major trades (obviously one/both of these will probably happen I could see a lineup something like:

    Heatley - Koivu - Setoguchi
    PMB - Granlund - Coyle
    Larsson - Brodziak - Clutterbuck
    Zucker - Cullen - Powe

    Brodin - Gilbert
    Scandella - Spurgeon
    Kampfer - Stoner

    Backstrom
    Hackett

Mind you, I'm no Wild fan so I could be wayyy out.

I could make the argument they only need 2, but either way it doesn't support your argument for Granlund going 1st.
