    Hey guys,

I'm looking to pull off a pre-season trade here. The league details are in my sig:

    Niemi/Purcell

    for

    Eberle/Moulson

I see that Neuvirth is a free agent, so I can scoop him up and roll Quick and Holtby/Neuvirth as my main goalies, and perhaps even grab Theodore as well out of FA.

The team I'd be trading with doesn't have the strongest of goaltending: Price, Hiller & Nabokov.

I've talked to two people about this: one has me coming out on top, and the other has me losing by jettisoning Niemi.

    What do YOU think?

I really like Purcell. I think he's going to put up numbers this year, so don't underestimate what you're giving up. Of course there is nothing not to like about Eberle though. Yes, you could spare Niemi and Neuvirth would be a good handcuff as a replacement. I don't think the Caps know who their goalie will be, and they'll probably still be settling that 4 weeks into the season. But you won't go wrong with that tandem either way it goes. If you really love Eberle and Moulson, it's not a bad deal.

I'm a big Purcell guy as well. 65 points last year wasn't an accident playing with Stamkos for a lot of the time. That's why I like having him and St. Louis as a duo. But with this trade I would make two more duos: Hall/Eberle as well as Tavares/Moulson. I'm a big fan of duos as you can tell.

I like Purcell to, but I don't value him above either one of Eberle or Moulson. Sucks to lose Niemi with your goaltending, but this is a deal too good to pass up. In most leagues a swap of Eberle for Niemi straight up would be a big win, especially in a keeper. There's no doubt in my mind who I would want in a one for one trade of Moulson for Purcell, and the answer would be Moulson. Value wise you won big, and in terms of it helping your team you won as well.

    Eberle > Niemi
    Moulson > Purcell

Not a bad move if you can handcuff the WSH tandem.

Thanks for the input, guys. Do you think that Niemi is an improvement over Price, Hiller or Nabokov (well obviously it is over Nabokov)? Scoring in sig.

Again, I'm banking big time on the Holtby/Neuvirth tandem being pretty good this year after their playoffs that Holtby had. Ideally, he would run with the starting position as Neuvirth has never been able to solidify himself as their starter despite many opportunities.

And hopefully the team overall just plays better. I figure Oates would coach more to the strength of their best players, rather than the frustrating defensive approach of Hunter.

I think you'd be getting the best player in the trade, so go for it if you can

But, I doubt that he goes for it. His goaltending isn't all that terrible IMHO. I sure as hell wouldn't sacrifice Eberle to get Niemi when I have Price and Hiller already. I expect I'd rather have Hiller than Niemi anyway.

I dunno, I had Hiller last year and let me tell ya, I would have killed to have Niemi instead. Dude was horrible, as that whole team was.

Perhaps, I had Hiller last season also, but I don't see Niemi as an upgrade that I'm going to cough up both Eberle and Moulson for.

Anaheim was a team in chaos last year. Everyone sucked on that team. I'm not ready to decide that Hiller sucks based on last season, any more than I would Getz or Perry or Ryan.

I think the problem was that outside of Selanne, they didn't have any offensive threats beyond their top line. If opponents dedicated most of their efforts on Getzlaf/Perry/Ryan, the rest of the forwards wouldn't be much of an issue.

Combine that with a very average D core and you have tough nights more often than not for Hiller. Since they haven't really upgraded anywhere, and now they are out Visnovsky, I don't foresee things playing out much differently this season.

My main reticence lies in that I don't want to be rolling a skeleton crew behind Quick. I can lock up Neuvirth as a handcuff to Holtby (dropping Neil so who cares). Then I'd have to drop another player to grab Theodore or Reimer. In my eyes, I take a big hit in net, even if he sent Nabokov back my way.

Just keep in mind that with the compressed schedule, you can probably get by with Quick and the Holtby/Neuvirth tandem. Every team is going to play about four games each week.

With all the back-to-backs, Neuvirth should get a respectable number of starts. If there was ever a year to go with a goalie tandem, this is it.

You might take a hit in wins, but I'd think that would be negligible for what you gain on the offensive end.

There has been a breakthrough here that doesn't even have me picking up any extra goalies other than Neuvirth. It's morphed to:

    Niemi/Purcell/Ray Whitney

    for

    Eberle/Moulson/Price

I'm pretty sure this is a home run in my favour? I think the Canadiens will once again suck balls but Price should still put up acceptable #2 goalie numbers.

I think Ray Whitney, even at age 76, could match his numbers from last year if not exceed them. He's playing with a lot more around him than in Phoenix.

    Thoughts?

Ok seriously what mind control do you have this guy under?

    Eberle>>> Purcell
    Moulson> Whitney
    Price >> Niemi

    Pull the trigger NOW

With Quick, Holtby and Price in net I wouldn't bother with a 4th goalie.
