    Default 3/14/12 - Studs & Duds

Gotta keep it to an abbreviated version tonight folks.

    Studs

What's Cooke'in - On a night that was expected to be overshadowed by the return of Sidney Crosby, Matt Cooke took center-stage and scored two goals, including the game winner.

HUMONGOUS streak! - With tonight's 3-2 victory over the Islanders, Bryzgalov has now won seven consecutive starts, allowing only seven goals over that span and posting four shutouts.

200 wins for-Ward - Cam Ward rocked his 200th career win in style on Thursday, posting 40 saves for the shutout. It was a nice gift to owners after allowing four goals earlier in the week.

Bust-a-Reim - James Reimer had a big game for the Leafs, saving 34 of 35 shots against the Tampa Bay Lightning, stifling Steven Stamkos and his goal-stick. Stamkos managed to get six shots on Reimer but he stopped all of them.

Flames players stay hot - Don't have the time to look up exact stats right now, but players like Glencross, Tanguay, and Giordano have all been phenomenal for the Flames lately, with Glencross and Tanguay's consistent production spanning back weeks. Rook Sven Baertschi now has goals in three consecutive games! Not bad considering how he's only got four NHL games under his belt!

Giggy and Marty get'er done! - A couple of seasoned vets squared off as the Devils went up against the Avalanche. Both goalies posted shutouts, with Marty eventually winning it in the SO as Kovalchuk and Parise each scored. This was only the second shutout on the season for both goalies.

Panthers feast on the Bruins - Wow, what more needs to be said, the Panthers spanked the hell out of the bears tonight, scoring six goals against. Brian Campbell was the night's biggest performer registering three assists. Fleischmann, Samuelsson, and Weiss all registered two points on the night.

Too lazy to come up with a title, Rinne and Niemi were both crazy good tonight.

    Duds

Tiny Tim - Tim Thomas is really hurtin' right now. After starting off the season with the expected Vezina-quality numbers, he's been absolutely horrible since the infamous 'White House snub". Thomas allowed all six goals that the Panthers scored on Thursday on 29 shots.

The other Marty B Martin Biron allowed five goals on 32 shots as the Rangers lost to the Penguins of the final score 5-2.

Mike Smith - Over the month of February, Smith was a must start. In the month of March however, he's been bad more times than he has been good. Despite his 42 save shutout against San Jose on March 10, that was pretty much the only good start he'd have this season that resulted in a W. Smith allowed four goals on 19 shots against the Flames, making that three starts in a row that he's allowed four goals.

Horrible puns. A lot of them weren't even original. What a scrub.
