    Thumbs up Top 3 D-men

Just wanted your thoughts on your top 3 D-men for this year. It seems like Karlsson-Letang-Subban are well cemented there. Anybody could slide in that top 3? Interested for points only league.
    Thanks

Dark horses for me would be:

    Suter
    Byfuglien
    Enstrom
    Green

Although top 3 I easily take the three you listed.

Agreed. Injuries will play a big roll in this, I would say. If Letang and Buff can stay healthy, look out.

I'll probably take some crap for this but I'm not sure I would put Subban up there with Letang & Karlsson yet. I want to see at least one more year at that high level before I can say that he should be in the mix with those two.

How many years have we seen a defenseman put up monster numbers and then settle down afterwards. I fell into the trap of overvaluing guys like Duncan Keith and Drew Doughty.

Big Buff is always a threat...same with Mike Green if he can play like he did in the second half last year. Pietrangelo is a guy who is way down on people's radars after last season and could be dangerous.

Green too.. I think I've mentally blocked him out; coping mechanism for the stress! HA

Another dark horse if used in an offensive role - Oliver Ekman Larsson.
Has all the tools. A lot like Pietrangelo but they're often used in a D role and given tough minutes/assignments.

My own boilerplate opinion on D-men:

I hate taking D-men high as I find they are much more unpredictable year to year than top tier forwards. That being said my top 3 next year are:

    Karlsson
    Letang
    Burns*

Karlsson is #1 as he's proven he's a stud and he came back solid from the injury. Letang is #2 also a stud and we know he'll throw up points on the Penguins. But the real sleeper here is Burns! If Burns is given D-eligibility but plays forward all season I see him easily putting up 55-60 points. He developed some real chemistry by crashing the net and getting fed by Thornton, who is one of the best passers in the game. I would slot Subban in 4th as his breakout season was a shortened one and I've seen too many D-men yo-yo downwards after a huge point outburts.

If Burns starts the season with D-eligibility I don't think any provider would revoke that eligibility until the Off-Season. There might be some risk that he gets put back on D and thus his stats fall off but I think it's worth the risk given the upside. So check your provider and if he has D-eligibility stop thinking of him as a 55 point forward (solid) and start thinking of him as a 55 point "D-man" (Top 3)

That's a good point. I think I would be more skiddish if it was determining keeper spots. But if it's determinative of a draft, I'd feel alright drafting him with those expectations.

Since Yahoo is notorious for leaving "inaccurate" dual eligibilities for players like Byfuglien (RW,D), I'm feeling really, REALLY good about going into next season with a keeper D corps of:

    Karlsson
    Chara
    Burns
    Boyle

Would be nice to get an upgrade on Boyle, but I can't complain. I could have 3 out of the top-5 fantasy Dmen in my league next season.

Glad to see Yandle finally being mentioned. Although I would not put him as a top 3, he certainly showed pattern of consistency so far in his career. I've had him for the past 3 years and never got disappointed. He stays healthy too for the most part.

Mike Green scored at over a 60 point pace last season, yet people are still leery of his last couple of injury-riddled seasons under a disastrous coaching carousel...until Oatsie comes along to save the day (for fantasy leaguers who hung on to OV and Green at least!).
