A little bit inside of my was hoping Buffalo gets Eichel instead of McDavid.

I think Eichel being an American guy will help Buffalo more than McDavid. Im not saying he will be better than McDavid, but I just like the fact Buffalo is getting an American guy for some reason.

One final thought on this whole Cockwatch,,,er, Bigcock,,,uh, Babcock drama and then I'm moving on - as all Sabres fan should.

Ok. I admit I read Babcock wrong the entire way. I own that.

That said, I am not really disappointed he chose TOR over BUF. So be it. Move on. I'm sure Murray and crew have already put it behind them and are on to plan-B. Dwell in the past - get left behind. I am very happy that Buffalo (Sabres/Bills) finally has an owner possessing the financial means to compete with the league's big guns, and the willingness to go after the best options by any means necessary. Sabres brass didn't lose Babcock because they low balled him, or went into negotiations naively. No. They lost Babcock through no fault of their own. He just didn't want to be here. That's fine. We'll find a coach who does want to be here.

In the meantime, we'll press forward knowing we have an owner in Terry Pegula who will spare no expense to better the Buffalo Sabres for the long term. We will have a contender, make no mistake.

    That notion makes me happy.

I would have loved to see him coach Buffalo into a playoff team.

But hey, he'll be ready when Toronto as to fire him because of the media.

Leave it DGB to make me laugh...

    MLSE: We’ll give you $5M.
    Pegula: So will we.
    MLSE: Input on the roster.
    Pegula: Us too!
    MLSE: Plus every spring off.

Blessing in disguise, Bomm. The Babcock hire is going to force the Leafs to accelerate their rebuild and it won't pan out. They will take risks, cut corners and fail to fully rebuild properly. That's one of the main reasons I didn't want him anywhere near the Flyers. The Sabres are rebuilding the proper way - they would be wise to stay the course - it will payoff in the end. Babcock going to Toronto reminds me of Brian Burke all over again - a big personality who will end up getting tons of extra attention. It makes business sense but I don't get it from the Hockey Op side of things.

    Per Friedman via twitter

And yes, there was a meeting today between the Sabres and Dan Bylsma. So we'll see where that goes, too.

For those who are wondering why Buffalo is giving up a pick for Bylsma, it’s because it’s a new rule that was instated by the GMs and owners. The former team can ask for a draft pick by the team hiring the fired employee, but will still have to pay his salary. If they DONT demand compensation, then the fired employee’s salary comes off the books and they no longer have to pay it.

That’s just what I read online a bit ago, so Penguins didn’t want to pay Shero most likely, thus no compensation, but they were comfortable with paying Bylsma and get a draft pick. Just my guess.

    Here's a question for Sabres fans - what's the deal with #9?

Kane took it when traded there and the Sabres have already been pushing the 9, Kane jerseys I believe? #9 is also Jack Eichel's current number. Does Kane give the digit up to Eichel or does Eichel take a different number that he's worn in the past, like #15 or something?
