Man over the last ten days I have heard more love-fest gushing about Zemgus Girgensons progression as a player prospect. From team scout, Kevin Devine to beat reporters to today Terry Pegula interview they can't get enough of this kid and his potential.

May have to spend one more year down, but the consenus is the kid has terrific attitude, effort and is quickly developing into a premier two-way forward with great puck possession skills and 50-60pt upside.

Jhonas Enroth signs a two year extension.

He confirmed that Regier has indeed talked to and continues to talk to Colorado with regard to obtaining the #1 overall. The fact that Colorado is not inclined towards a full rebuild helps. The issue is not so much the players needed to get the pick, rather how far back Colorado is willing to fall.

Salary cap issues aside (if any), I would not be surprised to see one or both of Miller/Vanek in play here, not to mention a prospect dman.

Failing that, look for Regier to make a move (if need be) for Barkov (Divine comparing him to a Kopitar-type). Divine indicated his draft board has 1-2 lumped, and then a drop off from 3-10. When pushed for his top two he burped Mackinnon...and then stopped himself.

    Good stuff. Very exciting.
I would absolutely be against against Colorado trading their pick for an aging star goalie or an easily injured forward. I hope the managment sees it the same way.

I'd much rather that Enroth go to Colorado (along with others) if there was to be any trade

Ok I am swamped at work so am doing this on my phone. Apologies for any fat-fingered typos. Gm Regier and scout Devine concluded a presser and I wanted to post some tidbits.

Re Jhonas Enroth Regier said this will be a great opportunity to advance his career.

Regier said he just returned from a GM mtg in Boston. In his discussion there and preceding, Regier said moving up to a top three is looking highly unlikely if not impossibe.

GMs in top four appear to be dug-in and set to pick. In fact one GM within the top five who earlied implied a desire to explore moving told Regier that "No. He wiuld be keepimg the pick"

Devine intimated that if they couldn't get to top three position they probably wouldn't move up at all. At least at this point. He sees picks 3-10 as relatively equal in terms of skill set and not worth the loss of assets to move.

Devine went on to say that teams 4-7 are eyeing the same player so there is a chance thats as the draft shakes out there could be movement up. But that'd be a wait and see scenario.

To move down, Devine would only consider moving the 16th due to where he sees the dropoff points.

Regier expanded saying he's not looking at the board in terms of rounds. But rather in terms of where Devine sets the dropoffs. Those points detrmine Regier's movement up or down. Devine at one point providing as example the 38th pick in this draft. Would be close to a first rounder in drafts past.

Vanek and Millet still exploring options. Ideally Regier wants them both but...

No plans at this point for any compliance buyout but he has until July 4th.

    That's all for now.

Default NHL Draft Weekend - Woot! Woot!

FINALLY! The draft weekend has arrived.

My erection aside, I am giddy w/anticipation at the thought of providing to you - all my fellow readers - with continuous coverage of all goings-on this weekend.

    .....[crickets chirping]....

Ah, well, maybe someone will happen upon this corner of the forum.

Out of the gate, I like the Mike Weber signing. Really like how his game has progressed - especially last year. He's evolving into a tough hitting, no-bullshit d-man. Fantasy-wise, probably not too much valued. Unless maybe a roto league for hits, PIMs and blocked shots.

    Weber will be solid

lol....EJ Hradek dancing to the intro tune on the NHL Channel....goofball..love that guy.

    I digress...

Weber will shore up the ass end nicely. Sabres could use another puck mover like Ehrhoff, but methinks Letang is not so inclined to sign. His loss....

Prospect-wise management is really high on Pysyk. Scouts are gushing over Girgensons to the point that their press conference resemble a bukkake film.

(did i mention this is an adult-only thread?)

Of course, every local talking head is screaming for Regier to move Miller and Vanek. Somewhat of an ironic situation, in my view in that - Miller is the one I would rather move but probably the more difficult of the two. Islanders and Flyers have been thrown around as potential dance partners. Colorado too, despite Sakic's smoke-n-mirrors.

Vanek is the easier one to move - at any time of the year really. Let's face it, moving a thirty goal scoring forward doesn't take a genius. But he's the one I would rather have stay put. First, Miller sounds like Droopy during every interiew. That alone should be cause to move him.

But even more important Vanek - while not a leader per se - has vet experience that is much needed on any team. Problem as I see it is the (presumed) term of his next deal. Dunno if it's wise to pay him the amount he'll be seeking over the term he will want.

Should be an exciting weekend all around. Looking forward to it.

    Keep ya'll posted.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on Chad Ruwedel- upside, ETA

I know he played 7 games after he finished college this spring. Do you see him in the lineup come fall?

Heh...yeah, I get a little carried away sometimes.

Um, well, Staff can go sure. I think he makes for a fine third line forward. And I am being sincere in that, as well. My issue w/ Stafford was Ruff's continuous attempts at relying on him as a top four forward.

It's really new territory for this guy (and most Sabres fans), in that Regier finally has carte blanche to do as he deems necessary. Last year while everyone was focused on Richards, Regier nabbed Ott. This year everyone wants him to move up into the top three. My guess, he has something else in the works.

What that is is anyone's guess because - as I said - there's not much frame of reference from which to draw.

So....point being...Regier will do something. He absolutely has to in order to save himself from the public stockade. I like the Miller-to-Islanders-for-Strome-or-Nino theory, but....

Ha! thanks, Ex, appreciate that brother!

Um...fug...ya didn't exactly lob a softball did ya? If Ruff were still coach that would be easy, given his propensity for prickish prospect pugnacity (alliteration is so underrated).

That said, Ruwedel is a question mark as far as ice time. Great acquisition on the part of Regier, in getting him straight out of college. As part of the deal, he was guaranteed a look in camp this year. I know Regier loves him, but where does he fit? Weber, Myers, and Ehrhoff are locks. Pysyk is highly touted and expected to make the jump. Sekera - as much as I have bashed him in the past - is actually playing w/in himself and doing well.

    Pardy's spot? Maybe.

Ya have to think a trade is in the making. Right?

Hey, sorry for the delay. I finally got some down time today (oddly, at a pub...go figure). Anyway, yeah Flynn in my limited experience, is a third line defensive forward and PK specialist. Maybe 35pt upside with limited PIM.

I wouldn't think much value in fantasy leagues.

    Lol looks that way.

I'll do my best to post my thoughts on the draft, later this eve. Overall, and after much cotemplation I'm cautiously optimistic.

They moved Sekera to make room for RustedRootium or Rustolium or Ristolainen. That guy.

Sabres are tired of have too many non-hitting dmen. McBain could easily start in Rochester. Sabres were spooked by Nichuskin, explains why they avoided him. They see him as a prospective member of the KHL Flight Academy. And with Ruff in charge of his development, look for the puddle jump circa 2014.

Just heard Sabres will allow Leggio to test F/A. Anyone confirm that?
