I missed this trade, anyone else catch? another Gillis pick gone. Benning adding depth on defense.

The Vancouver Canucks acquired defenceman Andrey Pedan on Tuesday from the New York Islanders in exchange for forward Alexandre Mallett and a third-round draft pick in 2016.
Pedan scored five goals and five assists in 28 games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL last season. He was drafted in the third round – 63rd overall – of the 2011 NHL Draft.
Mallett was drafted in the second round – 57th overall – of the 2012 NHL Draft. He has four goals and seven assists in 14 games with the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL this season.

Bob McKenzie on TSN 1040 on the Canucks and Bruins.

“There were some rumours over the last few days that former Boston Bruins assistant general manager and now Vancouver Canucks general manager Jim Benning was talking to his compatriot and former boss, Pete Chiarelli, in Boston. Now what that was about I don’t know for a fact, but there’s lot of speculation that Loui Eriksson was a name that potentially might end up on the move out of Boston and would Vancouver have some interest in him.

“So it’ll be curious to see if there’s a fit there, or whether Pete Chiarelli and Jim Benning were just renewing acquaintances.”

Any Canuck fans know why Vrbata is on the second line? Its been 3 weeks now. Whats the deal? Is Burrows looking that good with the Sedin's? Trying to balance out the scoring on 2 lines?

This season is a brutal reminder of just how bad Gillis effed things up down the stretch for the Nucks.
Schneider is carrying the Devils and Lu is having a heck of a season in Florida.
Horvat has been good, but it'd be nice to know who's the goalie going forward on this team -- 'cause Miller ain't the long term solution and Lack isn't wowing.
Maybe Markstrom will be a late developer.

It will be interesting to see if we ever get another look at Markstrom. Man, is he playing well down in Utica.

Can they bring him up? Would he have to go through waivers? I always get confused on that stuff (I know he cleared earlier).
If there was a market, I'm sure Lack would be discussed as a piece to move. Just don't see it though.

I'm not sure either. I think they can bring him up as he cleared waivers to go down to Utica.

    Anyone?

I think it works this way. Since he cleared waivers when he was sent down he can be called up at any time without worry of waivers. When a player clears waivers and is sent down and then is called up again, he does not have to clear waivers to be sent down again unless he has played ten games or has been "up" for 30 days.

The CBA eliminated re-entry waivers in 2013. I think that's what you meant.

So to answer your question he can play 9 games for the club and sent back down if they choose to.

That sounds right. Markstrom is a big body and seems to really be making his mark this year in the AHL. I like Lack, but if he were able to generate a solid return, markstrom is more than capable of playing every 6th game.

I do like seeing Kassian stay in the lineup, but we will definitely miss Burrows:

Updating a previous item, coach Willie Desjardins said that Alex Burrows (lower body) will not play on Sunday.
That means that Zack Kassian will play alongside the Sedin twins. Burrows was not at practice this morning so consider him day-to-day for now.

I know they're both hurt, but now officially both on the IR:

The Vancouver Canucks site shows that Chris Tanev is on the injured reserve list with an upper body injury.
Tanev has not played since Valentine's Day. He has two goals and 15 points with a plus-eight rating in 53 games. Reserve him if he is on your roster.
    Source: NHL.com Feb 22 - 11:13 AM

    Alexander Edler - D - Canucks
The Vancouver Canucks have placed Alexander Edler on the injured reserve list with an upper body injury.
Edler was injured a week ago and has not resumed skating with the Canucks. Vancouver is hurting on the blueline with Edler, Chris Tanev, Frank Corrado and Kevin Bieksa out, so look for the Canucks to make a move at the trade deadline if not before, for some defensive depth.

A good win tonight, but it may have been costly. Doesn't sound like Miller will finish out the trip and Markstrom is on his way......

canucks will be fine with lack for the time being. i havent given the canucks their share of credit this season as the past few years can jade a hometown fan but theyre able to win tough games on the road this season which is great to see.
One day I will quit fantasy hockey, today is not that day.
