And Richards for Phaneuf would be a great trade
But like someone else already said, Sutter shipped him out of Calgary so it looks unlikely
Well looks like I was wrong in thinking that special teams and high scoring would carry us to the postseason.
It just sucks that weve probably gained too many points for a full out tank
Still, a top 5 lottery pick would be nice
Its full on tank mode for me now
If we hit a giant winning streak (say 13 games, in honour of mats) then Ill go back to wanting the playoffs
And Richards for Phaneuf would be a great trade
But like someone else already said, Sutter shipped him out of Calgary so it looks unlikely
Leivo and Grandberg have been recalled. I’m a little surprised Grandberg has been recalled over Percy.

I am happy we did not trade a 40 point defense for a 30 point forward lol
Why the leafs should go after Eakin if they trade Franson to Dallas
- Dion Phaneuf injured on a week to week basis it spells even further trouble for team that is close to being a bust already.
- Robidas is not close to a return, still skating on his own in practise
- Granberg recalled replacing him in the active lineup.
Current look:
Franson – Gardiner
Reilly – Polak
Granberg – Percy
Now this is without Phaneuf being healthy and he is our captain along with the top defensemen so it’s understandable why fans think if the leafs trade Franson away for a rebuilding package (draft pick, 20+ NHL forward, and a prospect) we are waving the white flag and surrendering this season for a high draft pick. Most fans are on board with a rebuild, I believe in the mold of Tampa Bay lightning would suit our need for success within three years.
Cody Eakin Stats review:
9 Goals / 12 Assists / 21 Points / 0.49 PntsPerGame / 87 Shots / 28 Hits / 4 PPP / 18 PIM / Plus 6
His usage this season has been up and down the lineup which proves how much the Head Coach trusts his ability to play a 200 Ft game. When he is put on the top power-play unit he succeeds, all four of his points while with Seguin, Benn, and Spezza (73% of his power-play time is spent with them as well). He gets about 33% of the teams power-play time, which averages to about 2:01 per game. Overall he gets about 17:15 total minutes a game in which his zone starts tend to be on the defensive side, his Corsi On is -0.11, while Corsi relative is even worse -3.4 to go with an On-Ice SH% of 11.15. Starting in the defensive zone has a lot to do with negative corsi its plain and simply easier to get shot attempts when starting in the offensive zone. His Face-offs are another strong suit (354 Wins - 362 Loss - 49%) it would free up Bozak/Kadri for a larger amount of offensive zone starts where they are stronger. Lastly his shooting percentage is 10.3, which falls in line with his career average of 10.4 so it is a good indicator his production will likely stay at the current pace of 40 points in 80 games played. Not saying he will solve all of our defensive issues but he sure as hell would be awesome at shutting the other team’s best offensive players with Winnik and Komarov.
Getting Eakin + 2nd 2015

Franson

I hope Franson will get more than a 2nd hes a in his prime right handed defense. Would it be unreasonable then to resign him for 6.5 million for a few years on the promise we trade him to a playoff contender this off-season or next. If we are not doing great, we trade him if we are in a playoff push then keep him.

The bad thing is, if he went to FA he could prolly get a 7mill/yr contract offer. Not saying he’s worth it, but he can at least tell the Leafs he’s worth more than Gardiner and have documented proof that this yr, Franson deserves more than Gardiner.

great loss today, losing to the yotes who are obviously tanking, that takes skill.
top 10 pick should be a lock. do they go F or D? guess it depends what they do with phaneuf, franson etc.
crossing my fingers we pick high enough to land one of marner/strome, maybe even zacha.
So this is what rock bottom feels like.
Toronto Maple Leafs vs Arizona Coyotes
Starting goalies Jonathan Bernier vs Mike Smith
Fantasy Focus Tyler Bozak Oliver Ekman Larsson, Santorelli and Komarov
First Period:
- Tor 0, Ari 0 after 10 minutes
- Good news for Santorelli is being reunited with Kadri; Santorelli tends to play better when with skilled centermen. Winnik is the defensive specialist to support the offense of those two.
- Holland gets a good chance to play point on top power-play, Franson his opposite on the blue-line
- Good amount of chances and puck-movement on first PP chance
- Franson shooting a lot with the power-play
- Having Lupul back helps our top six tremendously, once he’s back to game speed.
Kessel – Bozak – Van Riemsdyk
Lupul – Kadri – Santorelli
- This is what I believe Shanahan envisioned in the offseason when he looked at our top six options.
- Kessel scores a goal to break the slump and give Toronto the lead, a situation where they tend to play better hockey.
- Kessel wrist shot (16:33) assisted by James Van Riemsdyk and Morgan Rielly
Komarov – Holland – Clarkson
- That is a line that could cause HAVOC behind the net on the cycle, and would produce offense by crashing the net
- Leafs end period with the lead.
Score after 1: Tor 1 – Ari 0
Shots: Arizona 11, Toronto 9
Corsi for: Arizona 20, Toronto 12
Fantasy Focus: Oliver Ekman Larsson (8:33 TOI) 3 shots, Minus-1
Tyler Bozak (7:03 TOI) 1 Shot, Plus-1
Mike Santorelli (4:28 TOI)
Leo Komarov (4:48 TOI)
Second Period:
Good pace to the start of the second
- With the Phaneuf injury it has been a good chance for Holzer, and Granberg to show off their defensive prowess.
- Franson being put on display by the Maple leafs for all the NHL scouts in the building
- To show how good Lupul is when he is healthy (big issue with him is health) he has a 0.65 Point per game this season and 0.64 last season. Hopefully we get a good return for him, his value should be higher now he is back from injury
- Bozak and Kessel almost connect but the pass is deflected out of the zone.
- David Booth uses good speed and power to get a fast break chance on the PK that he almost scored on, but Smith stopped him
- Bernier makes huge saves on Hanzal and Rieder to finish the Penalty Kill (PK)
- The “Top Line” is looking dangerous against this lowly Western team, Arizona
- They will get a chance to score on the pp here let’s see if they can sustain pressure
-Holland once again on the point on the Top Power-play unit
- Arizona getting scoring chances against leafs, Franson struggling to exit zone.
- Gardiner is believed to be the replacement
- Gardiner and Rielly is the power-play future of the maple leafs, once Phaneuf and Franson are traded away.
- I am very happy with that, both can go end to end easily with their speed and skill combo. Which the current leafs suck at doing
- Clarkson still getting Power-play time shakes head in confusion
- Shots heavily favour Arizona in the second; Toronto only got 6 shots on goal in the period, Arizona 21.
Arizona Corsi for 30
Toronto Corsi for 19
Third Period
- facepalm, five seconds into the period, while on the PK OEL scores from the half line….
- Arizona ties it up, Tor 1, Ari 1
- Oliver Ekman Larsson (0:05) from Korpikoski
- Hanzal (3:47) gives the Coyotes the lead with a 4th minute goal, assisted by Gagner
- Leafs on the PP from the Andrew Campbell high sticking penalty
- They got five shots on the ensuing man advantage, coming up empty once again.
- Bozak was 43% from the faceoff dot all night
- David Clarkson gets called for Roughing against Hanzal at 14:34
- Sam Gagner got the Arizona Coyotes a two goal lead with his power-play goal at 16.30 of the 3rd period
- Korbinian Holzer got the Leafs last shot of the game 14:16 into the last period. Going 6 minutes without a shot while trailing in the last period is completely unacceptable for an NHL quality team even more so against a bottom feeder like the Coyotes.
Final Score: Toronto Maple Leafs 1 – Arizona Coyotes 3
Corsi for: TOR 56 – ARI 71
Shots for: TOR 25 – ARI 45
Fantasy Focus after Three
Oliver Ekman-Larsson – 1 Goal / Plus-1 / 8 Shots on Goal / 27:00 TOI / 6:08 PP-TOI / 4:08 SH-TOI
Tyler Bozak – 1 Shot on Goal / 1 Hit / 43% Faceoff / 21:36 TOI / 4:16 TOI
Mike Santorelli – 1 Shot on Goal / Minus-1 / 13:58 TOI / 00:54 SH-TOI
Leo Komarov – 1 Shot on Goal / 4 Hits / 12:49 TOI / 2:33 SH-TOI
“With the system Pete’s put in place here now, you’re going to have to work hard for your goals,” Steve Spott, the Leafs assistant coach, told TSN Radio on Thursday.
“(Horachek) expects guys to be in good, defensive posture ... And that can win. But with it comes having to work hard. And that’s where we’ve got to get our group to.” Spott, TSN Radio
Oh, and while they’re at it, wave the white flag on the playoff dream. Through 50 games the Leafs are 10 points out of the final wild-card spot. In the previous 20 NHL seasons no team has rebounded from a 10-point deficit this late in the season to earn a berth in the Stanley Cup tournament.
My advice is to lose as much as possible and get the highest chance at winning the Lottery.
