I always thought Nylander would become a C as well.

He is so bad defensively I don't think he can handle his own line just yet.

Moore is actually a solid player, he just can't carry a guy like Martin, thus why he lost the position. The Goat is ALMOST there it seems, just not great at 1 thing to get him in the lineup enough. If he gets to become a solid faceoff guy, then that changes everything.

Nylander and Matthews tho just are so good, I think you need to have a winger that can play center to help out if you want Nylander as a center. AKA Marleau.

Marleau would need to play center to take over for Nylander when he gets loaded up with Matthews.

    Hyman-Matthews-RW1
    Marleau-Kadri-Marner
    LW3-Nylander-Brown

    Needing Offense
    Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
    Brown-Kadri-Marner
    LW3-Marleau-RW1

kind of idea. Nylander isn't ready for center, but you can't flip flop him as "you're a center, you're a RW, you're a center" like Galchenyuk. You need to commit, but you for the Leafs sake, you gotta be able to load up the way Nylander and Matthews play together.

Andreas Johnsson is looking ready. I'd plug him with Kadri & slip Marleau onto Nylander's wing

It was more of an explanation of what I meant than actually a 2018-19 lineup. Kap would be involved if it was a future lineup.

I still love how he didn't correct anyone on how to spell his name.

Martin is going no where unless bought out.
I don't see how JVR resigns with their future cap situation. What are we talking per year?
Yep Bozak, Moore and Uncle Leo are gone.
Polak put on IR. Is he headed in Robadas island for the rest of year?

    I think Martin brings value.

Enough to trade him for anything than eating his contract.

The rest I agree with you on. JVR maybe 5M....what then?

Martin won't be traded. There will be a time in the playoffs his presence will be needed. If they bench him the 1st couple games for extra speed and Boston (Pretty sure this is a given, unless TB falls asleep) is acting as bullies to the kids... then Martin steps in as sheriff.

I do think though, there is a team that could be interested - Vancouver. I mean, Benning went on record that he wants to resign Gudbranson to protect his prospects and kids while they break in. He's going to cost them 4m & likely 3-5 years. That's awful for a 5/6dman ,

Instead - trade Gudbranson for Martin & a pick/prospect solves two problems. Leafs get a bit more depth on D - keep that grit vs. Bos & Van gets their sheriff for two more years at a much better cap hit. Gudbranson becomes a rental at decent value

As the Leafs are at 50 contracts I can see them moving a few prospects they don't see a future in for future picks. Dermott is the real deal and Holl looks promising and is a right handed D so the Leafs don't need to make a deal for a D-man. Their G situation is also promising - McElhinney is proving to be a reliable backup and Sparks/Pickard are lighting up the AHL.

I expect lots of chatter about JVR/Bozak being moved but the Leafs would be hard pressed to find similar players (puck possession/scoring) for the stretch run so why move them?

Let's not forget Woll further down the road. Not really sure what to think of Scott yet.

I wouldn't get overly excited about Holl. He's 26. More of a career AHLer doing what he can to survive.
Guess there's always the late bloomer tag or caught in the numbers chance.

Sparks has shocked me but he's also gaining more experience so improvement is there. Not a fan of Pickard.
Woll looks nice though and looks like our future right now.

If Holl can stick next year, it won't be long before he's replaced by one of - Greenway, Rasanen or Ozhigenov & his window disappears
