The Toronto Maple Leafs have reportedly pulled off a big move and although it's not official yet sources indicate that the deal is in fact done.

There have been a number of National Hockey League organizations fighting over 25-year-old Kontinental hockey League defenseman Igor Ozhiganov ever since it became clear that he was coming to North America. Despite that it appears that the Leafs have won that battle according to a number of sources.

Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman is reporting that rival NHL teams have been told, presumably by Ozhiganov's representation, that Ozhiganov has committed to the Leafs.

Other NHL teams have been told Toronto has a verbal commitment from Russian defenceman Igor Ozhighanov.

Ozhiganov can not be signed until the 30th of April 2018 and that is why at this time it remains merely a verbal commitment from the Leafs, but it sounds like this deal is in the bag for the Maple Leafs. A great addition for a team that has been consistently searching for more talent on the blue line.

I think we could afford a couple cap friendly young wingers. if leafs make a move for a Dman - Cole, Hjalmarsson - is the type I expect them to target -- winning Vet on short term or expiring contract

Just curious... am I the only one who's worried about Matthews? This kid is too young to be having back problems already, and he has not looked anywhere close to himself since coming back from injury.
Maybe I'm just paranoid from having to watch Wendel miss so many games with back trouble.

It would be very Leaf-like for the Leafs' best player (potentially ever) to have his career derailed by injury. I'm already prepping myself mentally for the anger I will feel.

Back issues could very well be a workout issue, or he could have taken a crosscheck to the back when he was in the corner and it hit wrong. One injury does not cause me concern, I would be concerned if he gets it next yr tho.

His shot wasn't affected vs the Arizona game (the non-goal and the crossbar). I don't think he's got a debilitating issue, just muscle maybe, the way it comes and goes.

From the highlights it seemed like the Leafs just shut down any full comeback the Oilers were trying to mustard with quick responses. Good to see that, but not so good they didn't get the save to allow them to pull away. But from the highlights, it's not like they were terrible goals against.

You gotta feel for him, you know what he was attempting, but dude freaked out and panicked and didn't need to do what he was attempting. If it was Martin pressuring him, you'd think he wouldn't freak out, but that's what the fear of talent will do to you i guess?

there was no reason for him to turn like that...just chip it into the corner or against the boards. I think it's a pretty good sign of where they are as a team right now. Just no confidence
