13 games left... and waking up this morning - they are all important. Couldn't have asked for more than this back in September. If Andersen can just remain strong and steady down the stretch, they're going to keep this damn close all the way in. '

Under Calyle, I remember Gardiner taking the tough assignments - was it with Phaneuf? Can't remember who it would have been if not "The Pilon" - but he did well.

Can't hurt to give it go and at least mix up assignments during a game

Looking a bit deeper into this, Rychel doesn't have to be protected.

    Rychel:
    under contract in 2017-18, AND
played in 40 or more NHL games last season, OR Only played 32 games last season
played in 70 or more NHL games in the last two seasons Nope.

So even if he gets recalled and plays out the last 13 games or whatever is left, he won't reach the minimum games required to be protected.

    Unless Im way off?

    Leafs should choose Option 1:
    7 Forwards
    3 Defenders
    1 Goalie

    1) Kadri
    2) Bozak
    3) JVR
    4) Komarov
    5) Brown
    6) Martin
    7) Fehr

Obviously, they could take on a forward for cheap and not protect Fehr or Martin.

Leivo, Rychel, Hyman, Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Kapanen, Leipsec, Soshnikov, Griffith, Gauthier......are all exempt from the expansion draft.

    1) Rielly
    2) Gardiner
    3) Carrick

    Exempt: Zaitsev

    1) Andersen

If we trade for a defender that will get exposed (like one of the Anaheim ones, or Dumba/Brodin, etc) Carrick is most likely to get scooped up by Vegas, IMO.

I believe they're only required to expose 2 forwards and 1 D who meet those games played requirements. Beyond that, anyone who had played more than 2 Pro seasons in North America are eligible to be taken and Rychel is currently in his 3rd NA pro season.

CapFriendly also has him exposed on their draft tool and they seem to have a good grasp of how this thing is supposed to work.

CapFriendly says he needs another 38GP to meet the exposure requirement.

He's played in 3 different professional seasons, but I assume he's considered to have only played 2 pro seasons, because he only played 4 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in 2014-15.
Nylander and Kapanan were on loan from their Swedish teams their first yr as AHLers, so those games don’t count.

I could be wrong but that’s what I think.

huge win by the leafs tonight.

weak penalty on Moore though, they put the whistles away for most of the 3rd so i don't think that should have been called.

some pretty lucky empty net goals...those had some distance.

I actually agree with the call. He interfered clearly nowhere near the puch and cleared his way to the crease. Had the pass arrived, he would have had a great scoring chance. Have to call it regardless of how you allowed the play prior to that. And Bruins already got a away with quite a few things throughout the game, Chara's slash, Krug's interference / take down etc.

Statement game for the boys, loving it.

I really hope they make the play-offs. I love watching their games even though most of their players are on teams im battling in hockey pools. Be nice to see how Marner and Matthews perform in their first playoffs.

If Moore had been the one who went down when the two came together, does that mean you think the Leafs should have got the penalty? Chinsy call IMO, especially at that point in the game.

The one thing that has bugged me about the NHL (most leagues with penalties) is that a call at 1min left in the 1st can be a good one, but a call 1min left in the 3rd can be a bad one. I think it was still a meh call, but a call shouldn't be determined by time left on a clock in my opinion.

But that was such a good game to watch. Really felt like a playoff game. The cool thing about these Leaf players are they don't look up to a team it seems. They don't gauche at a teams resume, or get caught up in who's a better team it seems. They really can be an interesting team in the playoffs.
