Ice looked real choppy all night.

Leafs looked real tired in the third period. Philly played a pretty good team game. Leafs were pumping them in the first and second but they definitely won the neutral zone battle. Seemed to have stumped our PP.

Can't believe the Leafs PP is something like 35% since Dec 1st. If and when that number pulls back I wonder if the Leafs slip out of a playoffs.

One thing I wanted this year was the Leafs to be playing meaningful games in March. I think I'll be getting that wish.

Also we need Rielly back. I can't wait until Marincin is out of the lineup again.

I don't know what you see in him OG.

    He's a good #7, I'll give you that.

Rielly sounds like he?s returning right after the break, and sounded like he could have played vs Philly, but no real reason why you would force it with 4 days off coming up.

I only see him as a lankier Hunwick really, but not as smart. Like I said I can?t tell if he?s smart or dumb. If watching him, I can see these little defensive plays when he?s skating backwards where I?m impressed. Then the puck goes into the corner and he either looks like he?s crazy outmuscled (but stays with the guy, albeit not looking good), or he wins the puck but takes too much time getting rid of it. I see this player who might be able to turn into that 5th D that kills penalties that no one signs, but everyone wants at the deadline. But that?s if he?s smart, I?d have to talk with him to see if he?s a smart guy. Like Hunwick is a smart player, but not highly skilled. You can see it in the way he plays, but I just cannot get a read on Marincin and it?s really bugging me that I can?t.

On a bad team, or with a bad coach/system, he?d be terrible. I will admit he?s a product of the coaching staff.

A question I was having with a friend.

If the Leafs can get another second rounder for Polak again, would you make the move at the deadline? Assuming we're in the hunt.

If the Leafs can get a Cap Dump D-man on his final yr, or even under contract for another yr I think you should.

Also depends how much faith they have in Corrado. If they think he?s an NHLer, then 100% trade Polak for that second.

Toronto has like 39 games in 65 days now. Hopefully they aren’t worn out.

The good news is, so does Ottawa. It helps they're so young. That youthful exuberance in a playoff hunt will keep them skating on nights their body says no. Just one more step in the growth and maturity of this team.

Omg 5 straight goals against. This is not how we wanted to start the second half.

A team with so many inexperienced players would have these types of highs and lows though. There's some great talent there but very green.

If they can make the playoffs while still dropping so many points throughout the seaon, I'll be really really impressed.

Learn to close the game out, already!

By the way, did anyone see Andersens talk after the game?

I think it's the funniest shit.

You can tell the Islanders are used to playing on that ice and the Leafs weren’t

The commentators kept saying it was good to see the Leafs playing D, but besides some key box outs, the D wasn’t there, but McElhinney was. He won them that game.

Sometimes I wonder if commentators know what D is... often a solid defensive play preventing a scoring chance from ever emerging goes unnoticed, but 39 shots against and 1 goal gets touted as a good defensive effort. Unless the large majority of shots are poor percentage perimeter shots. but, well... umm...

Yeah the D wasn't very impressive last night.

I wonder if McElhinney will steal a few more starts from Andy after this...

McElhinney has been awesome the couple games he's played now. The only time he'll play though is B2B and maybe a one off here or there. I don't think last nights performance will 'earn' him more starts. Andersen is the main man.

The D zone did look pretty bad but it's true the game had a different feeling to it than the Islanders game.

The PP was pretty brutal too. Not counting 5-3. I knew we would at least generate chances on the 5-3 and probably score. Dallas pressures the puck hard when they are SH (5on4) and the Leafs just aren't used to that. They need to be able to whip the puck around a lot faster when they play teams that pressure the puck SH instead of collapsing in a 4 man square.

Leafs got pretty lucky last night with some calls. I thought that was some pretty horrible officiating last night. The 2 minute 5on3 calls were pretty bullshit. Kadri's double minor was pretty weak too.

The defence was still bad. This is our top 6 right now too. Gardiner looks real soft lately. Reilly doesn't look like Reilly before the injury. Polak is one of my favourites for what he brings. Hunwick is a steady vet who makes some bonehead plays rarely. Carrick as looked pretty decent lately. He's stepping up his positioning and getting a little more physical out there, which he needs more of. And Zaitsev has been the best Leafs defender all year, or at least since before the Christmas break. I don't like to look at him as a rookie since he is 26 but Im so impressed he's this good in his rookie North American season. And he can still get better. We need a true #1 defender and this team can make some noise in the coming playoffs.

The only complaint I have with Ziets is that he needs to use his shot! He has a cannon, but never uses it. If he starts taking some onetimers from the point position on PPs it could help open up the outside guys because the PK doesn’t look to block with its getting passes to Ziets.

Rielly will likely look like this for the rest of the year. High Ankle sprains are tough.
