    Another third period lead blown.

Still picked up a point but all these points loss will cost them a playoff spot this year.

The key is if this young team can learn from this.

Isn't that what they were just saying yesterday after the Centennial Classic? I think we have our answer...

    Growing pains continue.

But man... I still can't get that beauty feed from Matthews to Komarov out of my head. That and Uncle Leo's "better luck next time shoulder pat on Orpik. Better ending to an unreal set up and goal!

Playoffs are a nice to have this year IMO. This team is so young and relying mainly on these youngsters. Errors will continue to happen.

If you live by the youth, you must also die by the youth.

3 goals in a period vs a team who only gave up 14 (or 15) 1st period goals all yr. Chased a Vezina goalie in a period. Ripped a leading PK team. Clearly got under their captains skin. Lots of good in the first 2 periods.

Then the 3rd period. Poor passes. Not coming out with the puck on forechecks. Not limiting chances. At what point is it endurance?

Bracco and Woll have done very well for the USA in this tourney. You can really see how Toronto is just going to churn out forwards for the next few yrs.

Woll played two games. Against the Slovaks and Canada.

I can see him being the starter next year for USA and getting a better read on him then.

Bracco was ok. His skating is phenomenal but I don't think he'll ever make it to the show as a impact forward. 3rd liner with second PP time, kinda player. Maybe.
Grundstrom looked pretty good for Sweden too. Plays with some grit, I think he can make it as a third liner as well.
Didn't watch much Latvia games but Dzierkals put up 3 points. Team leader only had 4. Dzierkals is an interesting prospect.

It looks like Timashov how found the AHL speed. His last 3 goals have come in the last 9 games.
And then Leipsic and Kapanen. Leivo. Gauthier. Soshnikov.

Hyman is the oldest at 24. Brown at 22. Matthews Marner Nylander all 20 and younger.

Toronto's young forwards are really really strong. But the'll also be some stiff internal competition in the foreseeable future.

A good question and something I was thinking about today.

How much do you sign Zaitsev for?

    $ and term?

I have a number in mind but want to hear your thoughts first.

Dzierkals in the QMJHL (Rouyn-Noranda Huskies) has 27pts in 22games. Mathieu Joseph for Team Canada is in that league and has 45pts in 29games, and the scoring leader has 63pts in 40games. I like the way Dzierkals plays, he?s a decent pick for a 3rd rounder, but I dunno if he makes it to the NHL. But the positive thing will be he can stay in the AHL longer and develop like what the Wings used to do. If he can play with talent (Matthews/Marner) he could be an impactful guy.

Zaitsev I would do a 2yr deal, 2yr 8-10mill? I?m never a good judge on doing a contract. Also depends on how they want to go about FA too. If they go hard on Shattenkirk that would solidify their top 4 for next yr at Gardiner, Rielly, Zaits, Shattenkirk. Leaving slim room for Neilsen for the future.

Agree with Guru. I can't see Bracco ever making it. He doesn't look like guys like Gaudreau who are a step above other players.

bracco = 2nd line or bust

zaitsev probably gets a bridge deal, 2x4M or something.

The Bracco to Windsor trade means we will see him in the Mem Cup.

Lets see how he does rest of season.

By the way, I'd sign Zaitsev for 5x5.

He is a stud in his north american debut.

Agreed re Zaitsev. Fantastic 2nd pairing with gardiner or Reilly. Just missing one more significant top pairing D. But who? And from where? And for who in exchange?

I still want to look at Nielsen and Dermott in the NHL. I think the Leafs can ?band-Aid? their back end for the next yr and a bit to see what they have. Keep doing these Polak and Hunwick deals for the bottom pairing, and have your top 4 as Rielly, Zaits, and Gardiner +.

What Leaf fan can?t like Connor Brown right now? 6th round pick from the area, 20pts in 41 (?) games. Pretty much does what Babcock asks.

Agreed, went from 4th line in the season opener to riding shotgun to Matthews.

Has more goals than Nylander and barely gets PP time

My favourite part about his story is he kicked Michalek, Holland, and Greening out of the roster. 3 guys they were trying to make look good to trade off.
