And I forgot Nylander is starting on the wing.

    Fair enough!
Toughto peg where he plays right now though. If Marner's play dictates whether or not he makes the team, then Matthews' play will dictate what line he centres.

Meh, I think Babs will play around with that lineup a ton. Eventually he will realize Matthews belongs at the top. Shouldn't take long for Matthews to be C1 and I wouldn't be surprised if he gets it within 10 games.

I think Matthews and Marner will get PP2 time, but be very sheltered at the beginning of the season. Then by January/February they’ll actually be given a fair bit of leash.

Matthews will play 3C and PP time obviously. Probably 2nd PP to start the year.

Not sure why thats a bad thing? He'll still get his 14-16 minutes a game. Perfect for a rookie. No need to rush him to #1 duties against #1 defenders.

Also, I might be in the minority but I think Bozak is a integral part of this team still and will get about 1:30 of PP time a game. He's our best faceoff guy (top 10 in the league) and I think that'll secure him some PP duty. I can see Matthews filling in for Bozak for a week or two, but I think it's best for him to start on the third at least for the first month of the season.

    Bozak-Kadri, out top 2 centers.

Bozak will be a pretty expensive 3rd line center next year at 4.2M though.

Is there any room for Marner? I can't see him playing more than 40-50 games.

Hunwick and Rielly stick together Id assume. Both lefties though.
    Gardiner and Zaitsev?
    Marincin and Polak

Guess we don't think Reichel cracks the lineup?

This is an excellent summary and why I love Babcock as coach. He does things right.

I don’t think Kirby makes it. There’s just so much unproven depth that has done their “time” waiting. I think Kirby is an integral part to the Marlies tho.

Haven't read the article but what is their definition of a prospect? 26 games or less?

Who would you rank higher than the Leafs?

It all depends on the criteria used.

Guys, I'm ready to replace the Kessel stitching on the back of my jersey with Matthews. Does he have an official number yet?

I don't see why he wouldn't keep his 34, but I would wait just to be sure.

Everything be grab their old Reimer Jerseys and read replace the name.

I also can't decide between Matthews and Marner.

Then again there are 4 in my family. Maybe a Mathews, Marner, Nylander and....

Who between Rielly, Andersen and maybe home town storm alum Rychel? JVR part of long term plan?

Matthews, Nylander, Lindberg, Zaitsev, Corrado, Kaskisuo, Moore, Hyman, Marner, Kapanen, Dermott, Gauthier, Rychel, Johnson, Valiev, Carrick, Soshnikov, Loov, Brown, Nielsen, Timashov, Leipsic, Leivo.

Some are destined to be 4th liners (Gauthier, Leipsic), some are undersized (Marner, Brown, Johnson), some are just unknown (Zaitsev, Valiev, Timashov), but there are just so many prospects that even if a few hit and the rest miss, it’s great.

Nielsen is taking the same progression as a big D-man who was just traded this offseason, Weber. The bad thing about prospects is you don’t know if they’ll hit or miss, so it’s just so hard to peg guys who haven’t seen AHL/NHL action yet.
