    My wish list.

Brian Montour or do we stick with hoping TD is ready?
And a stay at home tough defenceman(maybe pushing it with the tough part)

    Whats is going to take?

Some of the UFAs this year:

MICHAEL DEL ZOTTO (Loved this kid in Jr)
    KRIS RUSSELL (Overated)
    TREVOR DALEY
    DMITRY KULIKOV
JOHNNY ODUYA (Mentor for the kids?)
KARL ALZNER (#1 choice for me. But how much $$$?)
    KEVIN SHATTENKIRK (Not happening)

    From TSN

JVR, Bozak eager to commit long-term to Leafs
James van Riemsdyk and Tyler Bozak would both like to commit long-term to the Leafs, saying that they love playing in Toronto and the direction in which the team is heading.

Don't see them committing to especially Bozak. Gotta believe JVR may be pkgd for a DEF

I only liked this article for the Gifs of Dadonov's play. The writing is alright, nothing intense or any stats suggesting his play will translate. But if Toronto signs this guy (highly doubt it), you'd expect JvR to be traded then right?

With the Leafs depth i dont think they go after Dabonov, but if they do it's to fill a top 6 roll and Brown would not be a Leaf.

But that would be due to expansion and then the Leafs have Leivo, Rychel, Leipsic, and Griffith still.....

Yeah Dabonov isn't going to be a Leaf.

this team has alot of highly talented forwards and they have been getting playoff experience for a few years now in the calder cup, Leivo has 10 points in 13 games and couldn't find ice time....
we need a good 3 more NHL defense to cause competition. I think Nielson, and Dermott are close to NHLers which is good since they will be cheaper then FA

Looks like Sakic may offer Dubas the not-so-coveted GM position... first of all if it does happen, good luck kid, you'll need it. Is Keefe next?

Wasn’t he offered the Zona job and didn’t take it? If he didn’t take that one I’d be surprised if he took the Avs one.

Why would Dubas leave Tor for any GM job? In a year he's taking Lou's job in Tor. If you know you're the future GM of the Maple Leafs... and you're already heavily invested in the franchise having influenced the minor system for three years. You don't leave. If he's not ready for the job at the end of this year - that's on Dubas - not Lou. remember the quote. This has been a grooming all along.

Dermott yes, Nielsen at least another full year in the AHL. I can see Dermott getting some time this season filling for injuries. It just got more crowded with the signing of Rosen and Borgman - one or both could make the team in Sept.

Right now I see three potential spots open Gardiner, Rielly, Zaitsev the only 3 locks. Marincin, Carrick haven't proven enough avoid being bumped out if someone walks in and has a tremendous camp. Let's not forget their want to acquire a top 4 dman.

my prediction for Leafs D next season

    Rielly - Zaitsev
    Gardiner - acquired via trade
    Carrick - Borgman

    Rosen/Marincin

You doubt Lou? That's exactly what Lou said when he was hired and brought in. That he was going to groom Dubas for the GM job. In 3 years when his contract was up if he wasn't ready - that will be on Dubas not him - because he will have done everything he can to make sure he is ready to take over the reigns.

Transcript from the Leafs presser introducing Lou as GM:

On serving as a mentor to Dubas/grooming him for the GM’s position
Shanahan: I think having Lou in the organization is an opportunity for him to mentor us all. There are a lot of GMs who would point to Lou as someone who has helped them along in their careers, and I would. And I have since I’ve been here in Toronto when people have asked who has influenced me in my hockey career – my playing career and my career in management, with the NHL or with the Toronto Maple Leafs – and Lou is certainly somebody who had an influence on me. Even after I had left NJ, Lou and I had kept up a very good relationship throughout my playing career, and even after my playing career.

Lamoriello: I can ensure you it was not an easy decision, for a lot of different reasons when you’re with an organization as long as I was. Very similar to when I left Providence College to go to New Jersey. It wasn’t easy. I’ve always said anything easy isn’t worth it. Anybody can do it. This is a challenge and I’m extremely excited about it. I’d like to ask that question – someone asked Brendan about Kyle. I think he’s a young fellow who has tremendous abilities. I know him, his background. If he doesn’t become a GM here — I’m not going to be here for a lifetime — it’s going to be his fault.

I think letting Colorado (or any other team) talk to him is still considered 'grooming' him.

It's another process you go through as a GM.

Let the kid hear the other team out. Let him make his own decisions. Let him feel that part of the process. Eventually it's up to Dubas but giving him some exposure to this stuff is still considered 'grooming' IMO.

Agreed. I would be shocked if Dubas leaves. He came in shortly after Shanny & has had his hands in every decision. I also don't think Sakic is near as good salesman as Shanahan.

He would likely have to take a pay cut from what he's making now to become the Aves GM. Leafs have endless $$
