Default [NEW] OHL News and Discussion by DY

Welcome to the newest section in PG Advised which is dedicated to the Ontario Hockey League and it's players. I plan on providing weekly updates on top prospect and teams.

In the past couple years (since moving closer to an OHL city) I have become a huge follower of the OHL league and try to get to as many games as I can. There is something exciting about watching these young stars develop in such a competitive league - one of which is operated similar to professional hockey leagues.

Each week I will provide you with top performers, top teams and young players on the rise.

I encourage you to join in on the discussion and feel free to post any relevant OHL information here at your own leisure.

    Enjoy.

Any owners of Erik Gudbranson? This past week Gudbranson was suspended by his team the Kingston Frontenacs and stripped of his "A". There hasn't been any information disclosed about the matter other than it was being handled internally.

    Thumbs up

    Hey Dean,
Look forward to reading this, just got back from watching your Spits I believe, or is it the Sting? Beat my Colts.
2 very different teams, going in opposite directions.
must say, i wasn't to impressed with Rychel?
Colts are finally done trading, and what we see is what we are going to get a chance to watch grow.
One guy that I was impressed with was Ezekiel, was a undersized defenceman at thye start of this season, but moved up to wing, lots of piss and vinegar and doesn't mind to get dirty, keep your eye on him.
again look forward to reading this section and your posts, alway informative, and well thought out
    Good Luck
Sorry just noticed your Avatar, definitely the Sting LOL

Thanks man. I follow both the Sting and Spitfires but my allegiance is with the Sarnia Sting.

I was at the last Spitfire-Sting game in Sarnia a few weeks back (just after the WJC) and I too was not overly impressed by Rychel. However, Rychel, Ellis, Jack Campbell, Kassian, and Kuehnhackl had all just returned from either the WJC or the Under 17 Championships so I was willing to give them all the benefit of the doubt. Sarnia ended up pumping in a season-high 9 goals (I believe) in a trouncing that night. Ellis was the only one I even noticed on the ice. Well, I definitely noticed JCampbell as he was awful (and it was not the first time I felt this way after watching him play for Windsor)

I am willing to give Kerby Rychel another chance as he still has room to grow. However, at this point I am not sure he will be a relevant NHLer. He could end up being a serviceable 4th liner.

    Talking

I think Rychels Dad should of left him in Mississauga this year to get that experience
at the Mem Cup, and traded for him next year.
Cullen was in net tonight for the Spits, Barrie played well, 2 soft goals on our guy Windsor and an empty netter for a final of 5-2.
Your right about Major junior Hockey, it is a pleasure and a joy to watch.
Seeing these guys before they take the next step is amazing.
just to bad with the changing dynamics of the NHL, these kids are being pulled up to soon to be 4th liners, or healthy scratches.
i believe 6 players from the Colts last year, have played at least 1 NHL game this year.
It would be nice to see some of these guys one more year, like Burmistrov, who is doing well, and Kyle Clifford for LA, a spare part right now.
Will keep my eyes open for this column.
    Thanks

Just a quick thought. Erik Gudbranson (in his first game back) was ejected and given a game misconduct for charging on saturday night. Gudbranson is carrying himself with a serious edge right now. Something is pissing him off lately

    What is this ?!? Kidding

Awesome stuff Dean, love the initiative and the expansion of (different) league coverage.

Sent an email to Dobber/Angus regarding the addition of a new subforum. I'll PM you details later on regarding its inclusion.

If I'm not mistaken he just got stripped of his letter so I'd say that's what has him motivated. That or he suddenly remembered how ****ing big he is.

Yes you are correct he was stripped of the A and that reason would definitely get under my skin as a player too. He had a strong game on Sunday (following the game he was booted from for his charge) with 2 assists.

I don't know why, but I was under the impression that Jason Akeson was draft eligible this year.

Good signings for an organization depleted of high draft picks and below average F prospects

Makes sense if you are going to deal away all your draft picks. I honestly like it just from the standpoint that it can help them improve their AHL team. That team has been miserable this season and you know it can be helping the few good prospects they have down there. I could actually see Akeson being a very successful AHL scorer.

Not that I am aware of. I would like a free site to use myself

There is the option of watching OHL games online via OHL Livestream. It costs about $8 per game or you can get a season/multi-game package. I have used it a few times and it's not a bad option.

Let me know if you find a free stream of any junior hockey
