I'd love that but it would mean that we wouldn't move Hemsky. And then our top 9 is goofy looking IMO

I read somewhere he's looking for a 2 yr deal and I think that's what holding teams back from jumping on him. Not sure the Oilers are looking to invest 2 years into Jammy Jagr. I like him on a one year contract, not sure about two.

Take a risk, sign him to two years instead of one. Lessen the cap hit, and don't give a full NTC/NMC.

I also think the OIl should pursue Raymond. I think he would be a great 3rd liner, cheap, and could jump into the top 6 if needed.

I wonder if the Devils could be looking for a top 6 RW with their recent developments. I believe we have one made of glass that we would love to move out for a decent return!

Devils have nothing the Oilers really need and would trade. Maybe Andy Greene, but he's going nowhere. Not a good fit.

I'd take Adam Larsson...but the Devils won't trade him

I could see the Devils dealing Merrill. Unfortunately I don't think they want Hemsky, though in many ways he'd be a good fit for them now.

I was also looking at their roster and couldn't come up with much the Oilers would want.

    Matteau?
    Bernier/Carter+pick?
    Just picks?

If he could promise to improve his faceoffs to the point where he's at least 50%, I'd give him $6 million a year because I like every other part of his game. I just can't justify giving over $4 million a year to a centerman who loses 55% of his draws and isn't so imposing in any other facet of the game to make up for the immediate losses in possession.

The vendor in Mexico also wanted to sell me the sunglasses for $50. I wanted to buy them for $5. We agreed in the middle.

The Oilers "offered" 3.5/yr, so somewhere in the middle is likely where this ends up, sadly only for one year.

Gagner is primed to become the youngest free agent in NHL history. Hopefully the Oilers don't screw this up (not an organization I should be putting much 'hope' in, I realize)

So, analytic expert figured that the Oilers were the worst team in the NHL last year. Interesting.

Apparently they will rise marginally this year.

To predict how a team will do in 2013-14, Vollman takes a second step, which is “to make adjustments for all the major roster changes, including mid-season trades, free agent signings, rookies and other players coming in from other leagues and, in some cases, the natural improvement or decline of particularly young or old teams.”

When he does that, he figures the true talent of the Edmonton Oilers will see the team rise to 27th overall this coming year, ahead of only Toronto, Buffalo and Calgary.

It is articles like this that really bother me in regards to advanced stats. The premise behind Vollman's stats are that over time any factors associated with luck will return to the mean. Unfortunately for these types of statistics, you can not replay any one NHL season over and over and over again in order to have the numbers become average. Because of this, luck is a huge part of any NHL season so any prediction that takes out this very important factor cannot be very accurate.
