Just a rumor so far. He could be a decent pick up but he's not without risk.

Gordon is a great pickup. He will be exactly what they wanted Horcoff\Belanger to be because he still has a young enough body to sacrifice.

Apparently they picked up Joensuu as well?

Jesse Joensuu signed a two-year deal with the Oilers. Interesting signing. Size to the bottom-6 and still has some untapped potential.

ok, now that most of the stupid money has been spent (Clarkson, Ribeiro, Clowe, Horton, Bozak, etc.), I am relieved that the Oilers didn't sign any of these clowns. I don't mind some of them, but the money they are getting paid is just stupid.

I really want the Oilers to improve, and add some size to their top 6, but I maintain that the best way to do that, I think, will be by moving some parts and I'm glad they didn't overpay for a free agent or two (Andrew Ference aside).

I like the Gordon signing and feel that is good value for what he offers. The other two signings are minor and hardly worth mentioning.

Edmonton has done very well this off season i feel, they haven't made a big splash like their GM eluded to but instead made a bunch of smart moves which should help push them into the playoffs. Very well done IMO and I don't even like the Oilers that much.. (despite owning 2 in my keeper league and 1 in my semi-keeper league hahah)

I think that was a pretty solid price for Ribiero no stupidity there. Hopefully the lack of signing means macT will be going for Grabovski. Some size and tenacity for our 2nd line.

Grabovski is not a big guy...he is only 5'11 and 180lbs.

I agree that we could use some size, but Grabovski isn't the answer.

I'd actually prefer to just keep Gagner as our #2 center than go with Grabovski...Gagner is younger, the same height as Grabovski, and slightly heavier.

Also, Gagner scored more points this past season, had the same number of hits and PIMs as Grabovski.

I think Grabovski and Gagner are fairly comparable, but Gagner is younger and would cost less to sign (I think).

That said, I'd be thrilled if we traded Gagner to acquire some size for our top 6. Then I wouldn't mind if we brought in Grabovski to play center.

Gagner+prospect+1st round pick 2014 (similar to what Ottawa gave up for Ryan) to land someone like Evander Kane?

    would that work?

I think the Oilers filled some holes but I wonder if they went after the right guys to fill those holes.

Khudobin would have been a better option at backup then Labarbera and would have come cheaper (Barbie signs for 1M while Khudobin signed for 800K)

Boyd Gordon at 3M per for 3 years seems a bit excessive. I think he brings some solid intangibles but is he really any better then someone like Matt Hendricks? While Gordons career FOW % is 57%, Hendricks is 53% plus he would have offered some much needed sandpaper to the bottom 6. The $ difference was quite extreme too (Henricks signed 4 yr deal 7.4M)

I dont mind the Ference deal. Again, a bit high in regards to $$ but again he brings an element that the Oilers were missing, a winning veteran.

There are still some holes to be filled and hopefully MacT is smart enough to bring in the right guys to fill those holes.

The franchise will always be faced with the reality that the city isn't that great of a draw for UFAs. Teams in the East will also have an edge, as I think players take a longer look at travel now. For example Columbus moving to the East is great for them, and will make them a more attractive option for UFAs.

As for Edmonton, they still have to give slight overpayments to guys like Gordon, and have a tough time attracting marquee players.

Clarkson, Clowe, or Horton would have been a nice complementary add to the top 6, but doubt any of them had much interest unless they would have been grossly overpaid.

Maybe Grabo or Morrow would help.......
