Loiselle would be fine. I don't like the idea of just going back to ex-players from 15 years ago. I'd rather target people who are candidates based on their resume as management people and not as hockey players.

I am guilty of relaying information provided by a very obscure source. This information was posted on Mathias Brunet’s blog yesterday by a participant (named "Scouting"). From what I have read of his comments, he claims to be working as a scout (he never mentioned at what level) and will sometime report behind the scene information. His comments on this blog are often relevant and interesting, so he convinced (fooled?) me in the last year to believe that he really was a scout.

I however may have read his post too rapidly however. He mentioned Mr. Savard, so that may not be Serge but rather Andre (please don't tell me it is Denis if there is any truth in this rumor).

I guess we'll know in a few weeks, as I can't see the Habs going into the draft with Gauthier if they plan on replacing him.

At this point I don't really care who gets brought into the soon-to-be vacant management positions. I just care that it's not a nostalgic circus.

Greg Pateryn signed a two years contract with the Habs today.

No superstar potential, could potentially be a 5-6-7 D in a couple of years. Will play for the Bulldogs for the entire lenght of this contract.

He was the partner of Mac Bennett with Michigan, and the two of them were doing a fine job.

    Thanks for the info.

When I read his prospect profile and stats, the immediate comparison is Alexei Emelin.

Not a bad comparison. He doesn't seem to habe that mean attitude that Emelin has, but he is physical and strong on the defensive side of the game.

He will battle for the same roster spot than Tinordi, with Emelin and Gorges already there as shut down guys.

By now the news is spreading fast, but M. Gauthier has been fired by M. Molson. No word on M. Cunneyworth yet though.

I really hope they do a long and exhaustive search, no rush, let's pick the absolute best GM after a number of interviews. There are, when all is said and done, lots of viable candidates, including the much maligned Pierre McGuire to whom I would give the reins if it was my choice - a brillliant hockey mind who has travelled far and wide and knows professional and amateur players and prospects inside and out, let's see what he can do with this team that has so much young potential and so many key signings coming up.

One thing's for sure - McGuire would fill the roster with monster performers. Not sure if that's a good thing or not, but they would be there.

I'd love to see McGuire as well.

I'm hearing Roy was in brossard yesterday and the other rumour is Blair Mackasey. Just please, no ferguson or Savard!

The good: Gainey is out too.
The bad: I'm scared to see who they choose as new GM.
The ugly: The goalie coach was promoted to assistant coach.

Apologies for the sporadic updates. It's tough to keep on top of things when the games mean so little at this point. My life has also been a rush, as I recently celebrated my 26th birthday, helped my grandfather move into a retirement home, bought my first house and already travel 2+ hours per day. My personal goal is to get back in the mix this week and then kick things in high gear when the offseason gets rolling.

A couple news items, first being the news about Carey Price maybe having a concussion. As I said in another thread, if there are issues shut him down for the season. I'd rather see Budaj close out the season while assuring that Price doesn't have any setbacks that cut into his offseason training.

Also, Josh Gorges was named winner of the Jacques Beauchamp-Molson Trophy (http://canadiens.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=625616). I don't know much about it, but it sounds like an unsung hero-type of award. Well deserved in this case.

    A standings review:

    Eastern Conference
    Team GP Pts
    1. x-NY Rangers 79 107
    2. y-Boston 79 98
    3. * Florida 79 91
    4. x-Pittsburgh 79 102
    5. x-Philadelphia 79 101
    6. x-New Jersey 79 96
    7. x-Ottawa 79 92
    8. Washington 80 88
    9. Buffalo 79 86
    10. Tampa Bay 79 81
    11. Winnipeg 79 81
    12. Carolina 79 78
    13. Toronto 79 77
    14. NY Islanders 79 77
    15. Montreal 79 73

    Western Conference
    Team GP Pts
    1. y-Vancouver 79 107
    2. y-St. Louis 79 106
    3. * Los Angeles 80 93
    4. x-Detroit 79 99
    5. x-Nashville 79 98
    6. x-Chicago 80 98
    7. Phoenix 79 91
    8. San Jose 79 90
    9. Dallas 79 89
    10. Colorado 80 88
    11. Calgary 80 86
    12. Minnesota 79 78
    13. Anaheim 79 77
    14. Edmonton 80 73
    15. Columbus 79 61

Given this setup, the team will finish 2nd or 3rd in the lottery order depending on how the Habs/Oilers battle finishes. That means that the lowest the team can draft is fourth overall after the lottery draft is complete barring any sudden splash in the standings.

THe Habs will "clinch" a "top 3" finish with their next loss...
