Unfortunately that was his only quality. He's very clumsy and his positioning is awful.

Schlemko has been plucked from his fresh nest in Vegas.

A 5th rounder in 2019 for a 3rd pairing D is actually a good move by MB IMO. His cap hit is a low one too at 2.1m/per for the next 3 years.

it's a good depth move, but it doesn't fill their biggest needs... upgrade C and top 4 D

    Ok so they now have:
    Weber - X
    Petry - Benn
    Schlemko - Y

I think ''X'' gets filled by Markov, but all depending how much he's asking for, how long, and most importantly of all, how he's holding up. Maybe he becomes the answer to the ''Y'' part if they have to keep trimming his ice time and his $ value request is low.

That still leaves an important hole to plug and we haven't even begun to talk about the holes up front...

I feel it's going to be an interesting offseason for us fans!

Y = Davidson? outside of moving Chucky... they're going to have to fill holes via UFA. The cupboards don't appear very full to make trades.

Flynn, King and Nesterov will not return to Habs. Of the three I would have made an attempt to keep Nesterov. The other two are non-factors.

How does Schlemko go for a 5th while TVR gets a 2nd?

I think Davidson has a good chance of being in that top-6, especially if Galchenyuk stays in the end.

I don't see how Bergevin can address BOTH his top-6 center and top-4 dman issues this summer.
Either he keeps Chucky or he trades his for an asset, but he won't be receiving two unless they are minor pieces.
He doesn't have the leverage nor the trading chips to fill all the holes imo (unless he goes UFA, but UFA class is so weak this summer).

He just gave a potential top 4 guy for a 3rd round pick...

I know... can't believe a third or a second rounder would not have convinced Vegas to take Emelin (or Plekanec).
And then you keep Beaulieu and you give him a full year with Julien.
I really hope they keep Galchenyuk and let the coach try something new with him.

I read this rumour too in a lot of different places.
But I can't see the fit here...
What NJ has to give MTL for Chucky?
What MTL would want from NJ to fill their holes?

I still laugh when I look back at statements from last year when MB was looking for a top 4 dman. My reaction: he's there in the lineup playing 16 minutes per game.
