Random back-up goalie situation thoughts - I apologize if someone covered this earlier in the thread.

I read somewhere on the forums that Tokarski would have to clear waivers if they sent him back down.

    Any truth to that?

Would the Habs risk sending him down and getting claimed by another team?

If so, what happens to Budaj?

I guess our cap-space after signing Eller and Subban will dictate a lot.

It is true, and my guess is that Tokarski will be traded before the start of the season, only because he holds more value on the market than Budaj. Regardless of value, one of Budaj or Tokarski will be dealt before training camp.

Headline: "Eller and Canadiens far apart on contract talks".

    http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=457837

Pfft! Get out of here Eller. 3.1M for 28 pts and a stretch of no goals for like two thousand consecutive games.

Headline should have read: Canadiens realistic, Eller ******ed in contract talks.

Show me, Eller, show me. Or else no money. 3M, pfft.

Errrrrrr, have you seen him play in the playoffs when he actually had linemates giving an effort?

After Therrien broke the EGG line to get Deharnais and MaxPac going, Eller played with sophomore slump Galchenyuk, sleeping Rene Bourque and injured Brandon Prust.

Give the guy a break, he's worth more than what the Habs are offering. I would ask a lot also when I'm forced to hold Rene Bourque on my back and he's making more money than I am.

Plus, he's turning into the best faceoff guy we have. He was on the ice quite often in OT just for faceoffs.

Yeah I watched the playoffs. Religiously. He did have ok spurts and yes he is decent on face-offs and yes, I could give the guy a break. But I ain't giving him north of 3M. Wtf!? Subban got 2.5+ in his bridge deal and holy hell was he ever more valuable than Eller. I get the game, go in high on both sides... I negotiate contracts for a living... but Eller, easy bud. You'll be our full-time line 3 C some day, but more than that I do not see in him. It'll settle at 2.1 or 2.25 or something.. Which is ok for me..

Stupid articles reporting on practically nothing: Canadiens, Eller, low-ball and high-ball at outset of contract talks... It's the charade.. Some negotiations are worth the bluffs.. like Subban's... some just aren't. Pay the guy 2.25/yr for 2 yrs each and let's go to lunch already.. No?

And so they went way in the other direction and gave him north of 3 for 3.5/yr over 4 years lol! Buying tow UFA years, so I guess so, yeah ok. Tradeable contract is how I see it, bc he had better end up being worth at least that by the end of next year, bc right now he's not. Betting on futures I guess, but I also guess the Habs management see something I don't. (Which they should, they run the team lol).

Eller is a good player but maddeningly inconsistent.

Full-time line 3 C "some day"? Wow, couldn't disagree more, he's already our 3rd line cman and a very good one by league standards, and some day (sooner than later) he'll be a 2nd line Cman that will perfectly complement Galchenyuk in the top 6. I've always been a big Eller fan, so call me optimistic, but I love this signing and all it represents.

He's been the team's full-time 3rd C for almost two seasons now. There is always going to be a lot of criticism about Eller because he got traded for Halak. I think he's perfect for the #3 C spot. I'm not sure he can be a productive 2nd line center one day, but I'm not even sure he's ever going to get that chance unless the Habs move Desharnais and Plekanec (I'm guessing they will move Galchenyuk to center one day).
