Not sure how I feel about signing players while they haven't yet recovered from major injury...
Will depend on the numbers, but they maybe saved a bunch of money by doing so. Big risk of course, but he is an important part of that blue line when (if) healthy

Emelin's cap hit is 4.1 million. Ouch.

Glad I was right... Sad to see that it's Renaud Lavoie confirming it...hate the guy!

    Galchenyuk-Eller-Leblanc/Bourque
    Bournival-Plek-Gionta
    Pacio-Desharnais-Gallagher
    Bourque/Leblanc-White-Blunden

Where the heck does Briere fits into this?
Bournival has already been told he's staying in Montreal this year (like Galchenyuk and Gallagher were told last year).

I see no reason breaking up the kid line.

    Galchenyuk-Eller-Gallagher
    Bournival-Plekanec-Gionta
    Patches-Desharnais-Bourque
    Parros-White-Blunden

Leblanc should be sent back and not play 4th line minutes.

When everyone is back, it's going to be a real puzzle.

    Galchenyuk-Eller-Gallagher
    Bournival-Plekanec-Gionta
    Patches-Desharnais-Brière
    Bourque-Prust-Moen
    Parros/White

Something like that with Bournival being on the shortest leash.

4.1 isn't that bad for what Emelin brings to the table, in my mind. Would've liked to see 3.5 but the lenght of the contract is solid and I see no problem with this signing.

If he stays healthy, 4.1 will look pretty good in 4 years, with the cap raising steadily every year. Glad they sign him, not a huge overpayment if he remains healthy... this is where the risk lies. But he is young, and knee operations are now pretty common.

He is very sound positionnally, since his position consist of being wherever he needs to be to deliver a bone-crushing hit

I don't believe his positional play was that bad last year. It's not his strong suit but it never caught my eye that he was caught off-position that often. He's basically a faster, younger and better Douglas Murray. Plus, his offensive skills (though lacking) were improving late last year before the injury.

He also had to learn to play on the right side... he was getting better as the season went on. Still room for improvement though

I like the player. Just not sure if he's more than a third pair guy when it's all said and done. To me he's most effective when sheltered a bit. The contract is going to be an expensive one but it's a good player to keep in-house.

So far a pretty eventful day for Habs. Thanks guys for the back-and-forth. That is what makes this thread #1 in the team coverage universe.

It's funny because today's sports talk in Montreal should all be about the Impact first ever MLS playoff game tonight.

But Montreal is Montreal and hockey will always be #1.
