Nice little stat which illustrates how dominant P.K. Is on the PP...

He scored or got an assist on the last nine goals of the Habs on the PP.

He has 20 points in 21 games. Any way you spin it, he is a difference maker. Always gets the puck on net and creates a ton of chances. The production is elite. He might even take over the team lead soon.

He definitely is. It's great watching him this year, he seems to have improved a fair bit. Played very well tonight.

Eller was without a doubt the player of the game. Just watching him.. he looked possessed. One thing both Subban and Eller did very well last night was use thier large bodies and strength to box out, protect the puck and spin off defenders. It was a treat to watch the poise with the puck. Eller battled so hard in the corner. I love it when he is at centre and can play a possession game.

    Desharnais re-signed, 4 years at $3.5M.

There will be lots of detractors, no doubt, but as I said in the separate "Signing" thread I think Desharnais will more than earn his keep on this contract.

When I saw the early announcement that the Habs were going to announce an extension, my first thought was "3 years, $3.5M per". so this deal is not surprising to me, and unlike some (Connor McKenna of TSN690, questioning whether the Canadiens can "win in the playoffs with a guy that size"), I think he'll more than earn that contract.

It's no surprise that it's for 4 years so covers 2/3 of the length of Pacioretty's deal, those guys go together like milk and honey. By the time this contract expirs Galchenyuk will have acceded to the no 1 C position and they'll have to make a decision about Davey - my bet is they trade Plekanec before then and it becomes Galcy/Desharnais one two. The only tricky part is Eller, who has started to play so well, will they convert him into a big winger full time? They certainly can't do that with Desharnais and same with Galchenyuk (except short term).

This raises Desharnais' value in fantasy leagues quite a bit in my mind, the fact that the Habs have clearly indicated he's their go to centerman for the foreseeable future and that he'll have Pacioretty (and Gallagher, most likely) to feed pucks to for the next 4 years.

Not a discount rate. About what his signing value should be.

Probably right, then again I would bet that if you did an analysis of all the players in the league last year that had 60+ points, a $3.5M cap hit would be at the very low end of the spectrum.

One-time 60 point guy and currently on pace for 49 over 82 games. But looking at the Turris contract makes me feel a lot better about this one.

This is dead on. If DD was on pace for another 60 pts season, he would have fetch around 4-4.5. I think Bergevin's timing on this is perfect; he now knows that DD is not a one year wonder, but he signed him early enough that his stats for the season do not look that great. 16 in 27 is ok, but he had 11 in his last 14. Should he maintain that pace for the rest of the season, he would be close from that 60 pts pace.

I like this deal, and like Ross, I think that the Habs will be pretty happy with it over the next 4 seasons.

Was at Prudential Center tonight for Habs v Devils. A few brief comments:

    - Price: Wow, he was his usual self, makes it look so easy out there, cool as a cucumber, just a great economical effort. The goal was a tad weak but he more than made up for it with some excellent stops at the tail end of the game including one sterling toe save.

    - Eller: Wow, again. He is incredibly confident with the puck now, and on one play stepped around a dman at the blue line like he was Malkin. Using his size to out-muscle guys for the puck. Laser wrist shot on display on one shot. And the coaches are rewarding him, he's becoming a go-to guy in all situations. Impressive, to say the least. He's like a Jordan Staal out there, with better hands.

    - Desharnais: The score sheet will show a mediocre game, one shot, that's it. But on one play he showed why that 4-year deal is a very good one for Habs fans. In the 3rd, along the left boards in the offensive zone, he outmuscles / outworks not one but two Devils players for the puck, comes up with it and without a moment's hesitation fires a pass to Subban in the slot, who launches one which moose saves. Subban looks up to the heavens afterwards, cause he knows he should have scored. That is what David Desharnais is all about.

    - Tinordi: Looked pretty steady out there, nothing flashy but no errors either, and made a nice play to keep the puck in and ended up with the assist on the GWG by Plekanec.

Another big win for the Habs, outplayed for stretches of the game but made it happen, largely courtesy of Mr. Price.

Thanks for the game report. I was visiting my parents for the UFC show and we were a big crowd which made watching the game difficult at times. Too exhausted now to write about what I saw.

Habs players that may hit certain career milestones this season:

Moen only needs three games to get to 600.

Prust needs seven penalty minutes to get to 700.

Bourque needs 13 games to get to 500.

Price needs seven games to get to 300.

Desharnais needs one point for 100.

Markov is 13 points away from 400.

Pleks is 17 points away from 400.

Subban is four points away from 100.

As a side note, Kaberle only needs 16 games to get to 1,000, but it probably won't happen this season.

According to Michel Therrien after practice, Ryder will play tomorrow. He practiced with his regular linemates today.
