You guys are absolutely right. Trusted the cap calculator on capgeek, but it seemed to forget some contracts.

Take away one of Streit/Perry... But still, what I wanted to point out was that the Habs can go after anybody if they want.

Sorry to make you guys do some maths...

So they have a chance to snag a free agent or even a guy who is up for buy-out but doesn't even have a bad contract. I would be fine with not spending all of the cap money as well. No reason to get stuck in commitments that hurt the team down the road (see Gomez, Gionta, Cammalleri).

At that time, the Habs had to buy an entire first line because of horrible asset management.

This time, Bergevin is in a situation where he could get a good player with a contract that another GM won't be able to fit under the cap next season.

And as you said, cap space is valuable, so no need to burn it for fun this summer.

There's only a few premium free agents this summer. I'd rather keep the cap space for 2014, when there's tons of good free agents available. If the cap stays down, a lot of teams won't be able to afford to keep these guys.

12-team Keeper pool, straight points for forwards & dmen. Goalies get: 2 points per win, 3 per shutout, 1 point per assist & 1 point per shootout loss.

    League champ in 2013, 2015, 2018, 2020 and 2022.

Top 8 forwards, 5 dmen and 2 goalies count.

We keep 15 players (any position) plus two rookies.

Forwards: Panarin, Ovechkin, Kopitar, Stamkos, Tuch, Rust, Marchessault, Pavelski, Miller, Bertuzzi, Stone, Kakko, Brown, Stankoven, Kovalenko
Defence: Hedman, Fox, Matheson, Thrun, Jiricek
Goalies: Kochetkov, Talbot, Vasilevskiy, Campbell, Schmid

Just like this year, a ton of those UFAs will re-sign making that FA pool as weak as this one.

It will depend on what happens with the cap. Some teams will struggle to get down to the cap for next year, and then to give massive raises to some players the following season might be too much for some of them.

After that the cap will increase from 64.3 to something higher. It'll be back to business as usual. Teams will be fine.

Agreed... it will be tougher for teams to fit under the cap next season than in two years.

Bu again, it's not a reason to overpay for a fre agent. But there will be more opportunities to trade with a team in a bad situation this summer than the one next year.

That is something I thought about when the trade happened. What are the odds of two guys that want to wear #73? This works fine for Gallagher until a few years from now when the retires Saku Koivu's number.

He's a notorious streaky player. Last year, he had 20 points in his first 20 games, then 30 points the rest of the season.
