Honestly I think his development has to continue in Montreal. I would be a bit worried about complacency in the OHL.

I haven't talked Habs in a while and needed to get my chat on!
It puts a bit of pressure on Subban and the Habs because the only other RFA is in Russia. I think this all gets resolved before long though. It feels a lot like the lockout doesn't it?

It's frustrating because while he has a clear value with the Habs, he is no Drew Doughty. I don't necessarily think he needs to take a bridge contract but he needs to be realistic about his value. I hope it doesn;t end in a trade because I'm a big fan of his and I can't imagine what kind of value they would fetch for him.

I think he has to take a bridge contract because of the lowering cap. The landscape has changed and it appears like he has to be one of the guys that take a financial hit. If he wanted a different contract he should have signed before the lockout.

Totally agree and I hope that's what ends up happening.

As for Galchenyuk, while it's tough to eat a year off his ELC it doesn't look like he's struggling out there, so I'm fine with keeping him on the roster. As previously stated, there is absolutely nothing left for him in the OHL.

The idea of burning an ELC year only really affects the team in future years. I think it would be a cheap business move to do this at the expense of doing what is right for a franchise player.

i know ive stated pk at long term for 5 mil isnt then of the world but i understand why mtl doesnt want to sign at that amount. Hes not a 5 mil player yet. but if mtl is only offerring 2.5 per for 2 years, i think its insulting to pk.

If Subban came down to a shorter contract then I am willing to bet that the team could go to 3-3.5 million. Why show all of your cards when the other side is being stubborn? And for the record Subban's 6 year 30 million demands are insulting to the team. The landscape has changed and even under the old system he was not worth that much.

Is it time to start "The Duchiness of Subban" thread?
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.

So that brings Eller back into the lineup... on the top line? That would be an interesting way to re-introduce a (hopefully) motivated Eller.

Think this forces the issue a bit with Galchenyuk staying up?

It probably takes away any doubt.
