This team has two legit top liners, one legit top pairing defenseman and the best goalie in the World. That's a lot of holes to fill that Danault or Shaw will NOT fill. Can we legit expect something out of free agency?... I think not...but that's me.

I still think Ladd would be the best fit. Then the team can at least go MaxPac-Galch-Gallager and Ladd-Pleks-??. Not sure who else would go there. Maybe Shaw. But that second line is looking ugly right now.

Or the team can put a younger guy on the top line and bump Gallagher down to the second line to spread it out a bit more.

Or we can always look at a guy like David Perron/Dale Weise being signed and playing top six minutes.

They have 11F/7D/2G on 1way contracts
They still need to sign Carr and Danault (RFA)
If they give 6M$ to Ladd, I think he will be the only FA signing
Perron was earning 3,8M$ for the last 4 years. How much do you think he would ask to sign in MTL?

I don't even want Perron.. If he can't make it work riding shotgun to all-stars in Pittsburgh and Anaheim, why on Earth would he be worth it in Montreal? Ladd will be overpriced and at this point is a borderline effective 2d line player. He played a lot more like a 3rd liner last year.. I would love an Okposo but he is likely to be too expensive for what he is worth. Eric is right, this is a patchwork at best in front of a perennial all-star in net. Carey and the plumbers. Sounds like a late 70s disco band.

MB claims this was "one of the most difficult decisions" he's had to make...we'll no ****ing shit. I have a hard time comparing trades to acquire bottom 9 players, minor leaguers and draft picks as being as difficult as trading your prime-aged superstar defenceman.

I was ecstatic when MB came to Montreal to be the GM, but it's time for him to go (well that time has already passed).
