Here's the thing regarding Brown being ejected. He knows the situation (dman chasing the puck behind the net while facing the boards) so why do anything that puts a major penalty in any doubt? To me you blame Brown for poor judgment. Sometimes it's 2 minutes and sometimes it's 5 but the offender is the one who creates the situation.

Im by no means Phaneuf's biggest fan but I found this exceprt from Friedman's 30 thoughts this week interesting.

    22. Two maligned blue-liners, Jay Bouwmeester and Dion Phaneuf, are taking on huge roles for their teams. Phaneuf's been on the ice for offensive-zone faceoffs just 36 per cent of the time, the lowest among defencemen who've played at least 10 games. Bouwmeester is at 41 per cent, which is 13th-lowest. Only Zdeno Chara and Johnny Boychuk face tougher competition than Phaneuf. Bouwmeester is 11th in that category (with partner Mark Giordano ninth).
As for last night's game the leafs didnt deserve to win and were outplayed by the speedy Habs. To only register 5 shots in the first 30 mins of a game at home against a supposed "rival" is pathetic. For the most part the leafs didnt have their head in the game. The Bozak faceoff was bollocks but whatever shit like that happens all the time it cannot be used as a excuse for the loss. I must say I was expecting the Leafs to lose last night given how well the Habs have been playing.

One more thing, Carey Price is just awesome. Love watching him play.

    Default Canadiens 4, Bruins 3

Theme of the game: acting like an animal hurts the team. I am referring to Zdeno Chara jumping Alexei Emelin for a fight after a cross check to Tyler Seguin's ribs. It should have been a minor on Emelin but Chara's overreaction was quite childish. The Habs scored the game-tying and game-winning goals with Chara in the box. Karma.

Player of the game: Brendan Gallagher. He had two assists tonight and did a great job creating chances all night. Love the effort. Wish the captain would play like this instead of giving occasional effort.

Goaltending: Petr Budaj 31/34 (.912). Outstanding night for him winning an important game while giving Carey Price a night off on the back-to-back. This is so important because it allows the team to not overuse Price. He is playing well enough to cover all back-to-backs.

Gallagher's linemates David Desharnais and Max Pacioretty had two points each as well. This line minus Erik Cole is right back to where it was last year. Desharnais and Pacioretty have a great chemistry. I get the feeling that any winger in the third spot can have success. Right now Gallagher is a perfect fit.

I cannot say enough about Brandon Prust and what he brings in all areas. He can be used in so many situations and bring value to the hockey portion of the game while also being there in case the physical stuff gets out of hand. Milan Lucic got the better of his fight with Prust but it's not like it was a slam dunk domination.

After such a hot start Andrei Markov has clearly slowed down. I wonder if he needs a better defense partner than Emelin for 5 on 5. Emelin's hits are an asset but his hockey sense at both ends is lacking and Markov cannot take risks without some consequences.

The main problem plaguing the team right now is defensive breakdowns. For the most part they are solid but they have bad moments which cost the team.

Alex Galchenyuk is hitting a rookie wall. He still does great things but with around 10 minutes of ice time per game the production is hit or miss. Right now it's a miss.

The Habs are 8-0-3 in their last 11. Their overall record is 14-4-4 which is good for 32 points in 22 games. Looking good so far.

Just a note here but we're closing in on 2K posts in this thread. I've contributed just over half of the posts so a lot of the credit goes to everyone else for bringing it every day. I know I wouldn't be able to do it without the great interaction.

I am mostly proud of the fact that I managed to not derail this thread after all of this time.
