If they have a 50M budget can someone explain how they are supposed to re-sign Cowen and Wiercioch and still remain within their budget?

Things that make you go hmmmm...

The budget is lip service. Melnyk will spend and spend smartly when the time is right - Murray knows what to look for in players and if he wants something, Melnyk will approve it in my opinion. Cowen and Wiercioch being two of them.

They have already talked about adding at the deadline as well.

And just for fun my guesses are:

    - Cowen will get 3 years for 6-6.5 million
    - Wiercioch will get 2 for 2.5 million

B Ryan making his rounds on Ottawa radio this AM. He will wear #6. But he will keep the #9 in his twitter handle. He hopes one day to wear the 9 in Ottawa.

Don't know if this was already known, just passing along a little news....

Thanks. I've been listening to as many as I can. Slow day at the firehall, haha.

The Team1200 interview was the best for sure in my opinion but you have to expect that as they are at least somewhat hockey guys. I'm excited because Ryan seems pumped.

Yup I agree. I was a fan from his first twitter post, "Watch out Ottawa, I'm coming in hot".

I know he's excited to be in Ottawa. Also because he's with Gongshow Hockey, and those lads are based in Ottawa. AND because I'm sure he wasn't a fan of the way things were going for him in ANA (always trade talks, second fiddle PP, etc.)

He clarified that statement this morning on 580 CFRA in his 5 min interview. He resides in the middle of nowhere during the summer months (Wyoming?). And hence, he figured he had to be in Ottawa in 24 hours after the trade to make his appearances and sorts things out. It's a phrase he used to describe himself as "coming into Ottawa rather quickly" after the trade. And that getting to Ottawa from his small town, where only 3 flights leave daily, would be hectic.

He admitted to having a down season and not playing that "hot".

Had him in one of my leagues; I could attest to that. HA.

I just like the enthusiasm. Seems excited about it all, so hopefully that correlates to on-ice production.

I would have assumed his statement meant he was coming in motivated and with something to prove.

Yup, me too. My first thoughts when I heard the tweet.

But yeah, he is motivated and very excited to play in Ottawa and alongside Jason.

RFA Mike Hoffman signed a one-year, two-way deal today.

He will see NHL action again this season in my opinion and usually sees that on one of the top two lines. When the recall happens, a quick waiver pickup may be worth your while even though he was snakebitten last season. He looked good though.

Loving that Ottawa starts on the road for 6 games in a row. Time to bond even more and gel. Pay up rookies - team dinners on you. Sorry Mark Stone.
