Karlsson is a completely different animal and we all know it. If you think there is nothing wrong with Cowen you haven't watched enough Sens games. He's fantastic when he's physical but for some reason chooses not to be most of the time. His skating looks ackward to me.. like he hasn't adjusted to his huge body yet. And don't even get me started on the amount of times he left his man alone in the slot.
I can't personally call him a legit #3 but I guess we'll see.

Cowen's the only d-man we have who has the ability to seriously hurt and injure other guys. He single-handedly took Montreal's best forward out of the playoffs.
He's basically had one season. I don't count anything he did last year in 17 games as good or bad.
He was a #3-4 in his rookie year so I have no problem having him be a #3 next year.
Alfredsson's performance bonus: appear in 10 games and he'll get $2 million

Bryan Murray says Anaheim wanted two of Cowen, Zibanejad and Silfverberg for Bobby Ryan. Able to compete trade when Ducks agreed on Noesen.
