still lots of time but it all depends on Karlsson. They will play as he plays. Maybe he needs a full half season or more to get used to his ankle. Who knows. Swapping your top centre with another is a big change as well. Finishing low this year wouldn't be the end of the world especially if they got a top prospect. We will see. I don't think Boucher is on the hot seat this season at all.

True enough, but I was blasted pretty hard when I suggested this trade was awful (for the Sens) the day it happened.
And I'm still trying to understand how any (rational) Sens fan could support it...

considering what was said by Karlsson this week about his next contract, the Dion trade could seriously run Duchene and Stone out the door. It will be hard (next to impossible) to resign all 3 to the contracts they want/deserve.

I think it's safe to say he will be looking at McDavid money, if not more. I am not sure Melnyk will pony up those types of dollars. Karlsson is the face of the franchise but I just don't see Melnyk shelling out that much dough.

This is why I haven't been trying to acquire Karlsson in salary cap leagues even though everywhere I read, people are saying we should be buying low on him. I don't want a player with $12M cap hit on my team, and that's probably what Karlsson will get. And in one league where we use yearly salary instead of cap hit, his yearly salary is likely going to be around $15M (which is what Price will have for the next two years).

In real life, Karlsson deserves that $12M cap hit if we use McDavid and Price as some sort of comparables. But in fantasy hockey, I'm not so sure about that.

Salary cap leagues are tricky when it comes to buying low and selling high. A lot of sell-high players are actually cap bargains which make them important pieces to keep. Buy-low guys often times have bloated salaries to begin with (or in this case, potentially down the road) which make them carry a ton more risk.
