He gets back to being healthy and plays 82, 81 and 81 games with 61, 57 and 55 points. 3 years is a long way away and I made these guesses with the current set of NHL rules.

Huge win from solely an Ottawa perspective.

Getting rid of the goalie they wanted to get rid of this whole time in Lehner; adding in Legwand (although he was needed last season) for the 21st overall. AMAZING!!!

Sens will sweep the Sabres this season I'd have to guess. Lots of incentive to embarrass Lehner.

I don't see it; this isn't a win. This is a questionable trade where we lost a good goaltending prospect for a late 1st and cap space we don't need. What are we gonna do with that pick, snag a goalie and flip him in 5 years for another pick?

They had to move salary as they were over the cap, actually.

They're not gonna draft a goalie, they have enough prospect depth there. Lots of different accounts suggest Lehner lost his teammates and management, so they basically had to trade him. Getting a 1st and dumping Legwand is gold IMO. I did not want to trade him for a 2nd round pick.

wow, the inexplicable Hamilton trade should remove one hurdle to the Sens making the playoffs next year.

Loving Hamilton leaving the Eastern Conference for the West and loving Lehner staying in the division. A++ day for the Sens thus far...

I agree that it was a good deal for Ottawa and who knows with that pick, it's a decently deep draft this year apparently!

Yeah, I thought the same thing, but it's probably the team's internal cap. I believe the team has it's own owner-limited cap.

Oh. About that -- I can't see Melnyk's "internal cap" in practice being anything other than a tool for the owner to play at GM. Somehow I doubt there's a hard number he's working with because he seems to be totally willing to add randomly at the same time he says they can't afford to because of the "internal cap". Saying we're over the "internal cap" is pretty much just saying "Melnyk wants/doesn't want Murray to do something"

After listening to some pundit analysis I agree Lehner was a good deal, it doesn't sound like anyone else was going to cough up a #1 pick and perhaps sabres actually have a use for Legwand. I'm not popping champagne corks over the two picks we got tonight but both sound interesting.

The draft. Not totally sold on Lehner having moved to pull in yet another 2-way center when we have Zibanejad, Turris, and Lazar who do that just fine already. I don't think we made bad picks, but they're boring ones. I won't be particularly excited to see these guys come up and won't be looking for them in fantasy leagues. But they could be serviceable NHLers I guess in middle pairings/lines.

I'm actually surprised to hear that they wanted to trade Lehner. I get that Hammond earned his shot, and that it makes sense to keep a proven veteran, but they believed in Lehner so much that they kept him over Bishop not that long ago. I would have thought that they'd be reluctant to trade him....not happy to. What's with the Lehner-hate Notch?

i trust our scouts 100%. Us fans know nothing about these players. If they didn\t take Konecny on two tries, I think that speaks volumes

or they could be stars, who knows. Getzlaf and Perry were boring picks at the time. If they like White over everyone else then take him regardless of what the nhl team currently has.
