Blackhawks 1961 cup banner sells for $38k

odd that they auctioned it off in the first place, I always assumed teams just kept them indefinitely as part of history, I mean it's not like you get that many of them and how cool is it to have the original from 40+ years ago?

Yeah most teams would have kept a huge piece of their history, but not former owner "Dollar Bill" Wirtz. Thankfully, Rocky Wirtz has vision and has done wonders for this Original Six franchise.

Interesting series of tweets from Brian Hedger concerning the second line center job. Quenneville may have a well hidden ace up his sleeve that he's about to play. Kruger, Shaw, and Handzus are in the mix as the obvious options. Pirri and even Drew LeBlanc are in it as well from the prospect ranks.

But he let the cat out of the bag perhaps. Seems for the last year they have been working quietly to move Saad into the #2C role. And he supposedly has the inside line on the job. The ripple effect from that, if it actually comes to fruition and he succeeds will be very interesting to watch.

If it happens and works as hoped what's that mean for Pirri? Roll three scoring lines and have Pirri center the third? Convert to wing? With Saad's defensive ability does he perhaps get dropped down to #3C down the road. Where does this leave LeBlanc in a year or two? Does Saad even move to center, or is this a bit of thinking out loud on Quenneville's part?

    Check out the tweets here:

Didn't they learn their lesson with the Pat Kane experiment?

I hope Pirri gets the first shot. He's earned it.

    Apparently not.

This is still in the believe-it-when-you-see-it column, but interesting that they are even floating the notion of it in a Q & A session. We'll know in about five or six weeks just how serious they are about it.

Personally I give it a 20% chance that it actually happens.

So I was thinking today.... Vinny Prospal is still sitting in the FA heap. Instead if this wondering and hoping about Saad/Pirri/Kruger taking the 2C spot, why not give his agent a call? He could be had for 1.5-2 million, and he's still a good 50-55 point center.

Just some rosterbation, but it seems like a solid move.

I like it but is he a center?. Prospal has been a guy I thought would fit in with the Hawks for a couple years. Hawks are 2 M under the cap.

If they could get him cheap.....
