Was going to say the same thing - I can't remember the last time I paid for any antivirus or had any serious problems with my computer.

Anyways, different strokes for different folks.

Very well put and true. I have no interest in how my computer works or programming a thing so I go Mac. There are pros and cons to both sides fer sure. Kind of like comparing a truck to a sports car. If your racing you want one, but it's useless when you want to move.
What's interesting to me is how strong people (myself included) defend either company.

On a funny note every time I go onto a PC I think it's dumb how you have go to the "Start" menu to Shut Down!

Anyway... you can tell it's early september on this site when this is one of the biggest threads!!!!! Let's go season!

The ASUS laptop I'm writing on right now had almost the exact same specs as a Macbook variant at the same time, only the Macbook had 2 gigs of RAM while this PC has 4. The processor was virtually the same intel core 2 duo on both and the rest of the specs were extremely similar. The memory was the only big difference. The difference in price? The Macbook was roughly 400 bucks more expensive. The uses for these two are virtually the same. It's a regular laptop, not any sort of machine intended for any specific business like design, corporate office blabla or as a server (obviously). 400 bucks and this one has double the memory.

It's the same with phones and mp3/media players. Apple gets away with a much higher price because they know their customers buy into their image as the cool indie hipster or whatever. And then don't even get me started on their messed up development platform for the iphone. Not to mention iTunes, which is the most bloated piece of trash software on the face of the earth.

Apple is more expensive across the board for nothing and that's a cold, hard fact.

yup, on that front you have no argument from me...I will say though that the average PC laptop is made much cheaper and crappily (is that a word) than a Mac laptop but if you shop around carefully you can get a nice PC laptop for hundreds cheaper

Yeah, I made sure to have done my research when I got this baby. Just the small detail of where the fan exhaust is on the laptop is incredibly important (who the eff puts the exhaust on the freaking bottom of the laptop? answer: LOTS of brands. idiots). Plus I trust ASUS pretty well, so... but then again, it's in people's best interest to do research before any somewhat big purchase. If people make stupid money decisions because of a lack of information, I don't care what they buy :P If bang for the buck matters to you, go with a PC, if you have the cash to throw around and you like Mac OS, go for a Mac.

By the way, haven't viruses started getting more common with Macs in recent years because of the boom in popularity? I think I read an article on Digg about that a while ago. It's a bit naive to think that you won't ever get a virus just because it's a Mac. Same as it's naive to sit on a PC and not get some sort of basic antivirus protection :P

Totally agree on one level, but again you're talking about the Yuppie Mac. It's their lowest level and it's used pretty much for surfing the web, emails and that's about it - so the extra cost goes to the "pretty" factor. I usually tell people who want that out of a computer to get a PC. And the real truth is that the PC - at that level - can actually do way more IF you decide you want it to, other than run MacOS... which btw, my Apple can run, MacOS, Windows or Linux depending on how I startup.

But I pay more for my computer because I know what I want. Apple is divided into two cats - "Pro" and "Pretty" - the computer dictates what you get, while with a PC I think the user dictates what you get. But because I have a specific need from a Mac I'm an informed buyer, but I agree with you, the vast majority of Apple buyers no longer are. It used to piss me off because it raised the price for no reason, but lately the cost of the pro models has dropped and the price of the "Pretty" or "Idiot" models has risen. Apple uses the morons who buy an iTouch or that piece of crap Air to make it's money... not me.

That's my diplomatic side, now here's my insane side....

And for the record my laptop is an i5 not one of those puny and ancient Coreduos!!!!! it came with 4 gigs of ram (I upgraded to 8 myself) and 500GB of storage. I've been editing HD full res video on it since the day I took it out of the box without issue.

Honestly though I'm not one of those crazy Apple guys. I really think that you need to be an informed buyer and let's face it, most people are not. You did your research and know your needs and bought accordingly, I did mine and have different needs and bought accordingly. Most, people just see the iPhone commercial and say - I want one, then they go into the store and get talked into a MacBook by a "genius" who for the record is ******ed, go talk to one, you'll see... I almost hit the last one I talked to. In fact he pissed me off so much I told him what I was going to buy and then walked home and did it through the mail.

I just don't see how you can call a kid making 12 bucks an hour a genius because he knows how to run iTunes and iMovie... iCallBS!!!!!
