    Default 3rd goalies (slim picking...)

    Guys,

This is for an H2H league with W, GAA, SV and SV% as the G categories.

I already have SMason, Anderson on my Pro team and Bernier is on my Farm team.

Who from this list can help me most next year as a 3rd goalie:

    Alex Auld
    Andrew Raycroft
    Brent Johnson
    Brian Boucher
    Chris Osgood
    Corey Crawford
    Curtis McElhinney
    Devan Dubnyk
    Erik Ersberg
    Henrik Karlsson
    Jason LaBarbera
    Jeff Deslauriers
    Johan Hedberg
    Josh Harding
    Justin Peters
    Mark Dekanich
    Martin Biron
    Martin Gerber
    Mathieu Garon
    Mike Smith
    Patrick Lalime
    Peter Budaj
    Scott Clemmensen
    Ty Conklin

I was thinking about maybe Smith or JDD, but still not sure if they are the best...

    Thanks!

    Oh, man - that's a toughy.
There's several there that will be guaranteed backups.
But only one, as of right now, that will/could steal First G status and that is Deslaurier - with Khabby's legal and Injury issues.

Deslaurier is not the best goalie in that list, but in a decent position and as bad as Edmonton was last year, it wouldn't surprise me to see them as this year's Phoenix with their upstart young-guns.

Garon could be your Mason insurance. But I bet he stays untouched so just leave him on the wire. You want a shot at a potential starter to begin the season with.

I'd go JDD and cross my fingers the Oilers can lift themselves out of the cellar.

I jumped right to the list without reading your input or the input of other posters below. I concur that Smith and JDD give you the greatest POTENTIAL, meaning they should get the most starts and have more of a chance to get you what you need as compared to the others. Osgood and Conklin are other potential guys to watch as either could get a chance or two to steal the job away on their respective clubs. That is a tough list to choose from I must say.

In all seriousness. Since I know most of these guys will be out there on waivers during the year, I probably wouldn't bother getting them in the draft.

If you want to gamble on getting a starter out of this group then smith or jdd are your choices.

But if it were me in your spot I'd probably just wait to see if bernier gets the backup job in LA. Then if not just pick up a backup off of waivers.

Haha! But you have to know that once it's done it's forgiven!!! LOL!

Yeah seriously, I'm really torn between securing one guys on this list or leaving all them there. Like a few of you mentioned, Garon and others will definitely there all season long (that was the case last year). I don't think I need one for the future with Bernier on my Farm team, but I think it's never a bad idea to have a 3rd goalies who can play at least 30 games.

Crawford might pay off huge if Turco can't regain his form...

Didn't notice him. Crawford for me then as well. He's ready for the NHL, and he'll get his fair share of games on a very good team.

Not an easy call Chic. Crawford would afford you the flexibility of being farm eligible if that would make a difference. I personally like Smith to have a decent season. JDD could easily give way to Dubnyk in the early going depending on who is hot.

Yeah, it's definitely a tough one... I must confess that I didn't really think about Crawford before, but I agree that he could be a good one along with Smith and JDD.

Anyway, I decided to wait until my next picks (I'm picking next in 23 spots and than 3 spots after). Depending who will still be there, I might decide to stand pat and grab one of the remaining one from the waiver if I think I need help.

I'll probably bump this thread up closer to these picks.

    Thanks guys!

JDD... by the time everyone starts talking about what a difference a season makes... you'll already have had significant point production from yer G3.

only problem might be if/when you need his points in playoffs when Dubnyk is stealing starts come March. I don't see that happening because with a rash of wins in October and November, people will realize that JDD is actually pretty solid, and he wasn't any bit of the reason they sucked donkey balls last year.

IMO - JDD keeps the #1 job the entire year, and he's my runner-up candidate in the "who's this years Anderson sweepstakes"... after Ellis.
