keep Rinne, younger and higher upside
Keeper h2h league
W, GAA, SV perc, SO
My keeper goalie is Rinne but I was just offered a trade for Kipper. If I acquire Kipper, can't keep Rinne. And I can't keep both...
If you had to choose between the two, who would it be?

keep Rinne, younger and higher upside
I'd take Rinne.. Calgary looks to be pretty awful this year so Karlsson will probably see plenty of starts; wheres Rinne with Ellis gone will see a lot of games on a very good defensive team that should make the playoffs.

Call me crazy.. but I don't see why everyone is so down on the Flames. Last season they were 17-6-4 to start and then the crash happenend. The Flames had bottom 6 players playing on their top 2 lines. Guys like glencross, moss, hell even Conroy filled that top 6. While keeping those players they added players such as Hagman, Stajan, Jokinen,(50 points in 75 games) and Tanguay..add that to Iginla and Bourque and this team is significantly better upfront by LARGE margin. The loss of Dion will hurt the Flames physically but with the immergence of Giordano and White and Bouwmeester projected to have a bounce back year... I can only sit and wait for them to prove all the nay sayers wrong. Food for thought.
I see what you're saying Bluck, but a team getting better upfront doesn't sell me on the Flames. Their defence is basically the same that finished the season.
White, Giordano and Bouwmeester aren't shutdown defenceman, it's just not their game, so in Calgary's top 4 they have one legitimate shutdown guy in Regehr. and their 5 and 6 d are nothing to drool over.
I turned the trade down last night for a few reasons:
- Rinne is poised for a huge season with the bulk of the workload
- Every year people are down on Nashville, yet every year they play well. Barry Trotz knows how to get the most out of his players.
- New goalie equipment rule means slightly smaller pads for Rinne. Being a big athletic goalie that relies on his reflexes means he will have more mobility.
- Nashville is above average defensively. Not elite, but in the top 15.
Anybody think I'm off on any of those assumptions?

Hey bel in terms of the Flames Defence being the same.. I couldn't ask for it to be any better really. I believe the Flames finished around the top 5 in the league in goals against. That speaks volumes of their D man.
Bouwmeester - Giordano
Regher - White
Sarich - Pardy/Kronwall/Staios/whoever
That looks like one hell of a solid top 6 in my eyes. You're also forgetting Sarich is a great shutdown guy as well. Add that to a Vezina Goalie and the Flames are more then okay on the back end. It was the offence that was ranked 29th and granted a lot of players need bounce back years to make this team successful. I think Iggy says it best.

However, to your original question... I'd take Rinne in a heartbeat over kipper. Young, Talented, Nashville has a good system to, Gets a lot of shutout's. He's your man.
