this is killing me!!!!! but i wouldnt put so much weight into this report. it comes from a russian sports source. they are just building hype. if it came from someone in the states then that would be something different.

the silence of kovys' camp is terrible but we will see.

Ya, not sure what to make of it, but I have definitely changed my tune from 10% chances to the K, to at least 50/50, if not a little better that he goes. Who knows, though...

wow, sounds to me like he got a late offer from the KHL after the $8.5m /year to NJD almost deal broke news.

So the russian $10 mil a year is tax free, while the NHL 8.5/yr is not, correct?

I couldn't blame the guy for putting double the money in his pockets back in his home country, but I think he'll stick in the NHL till his mid 30s, and bounce to the KHL then if it still stands.

Considering the fact that he actually entertains these offers from the KHL in order to leverage more from an NHL team just goes to show that he is ONLY looking out for #1. i don't think he is really trying to fit into a team, he wants to BE the team as he was in ATL without actually playing in ATL.

In my mind, his character has never been great but this just goes to show that he is as selfish off the ice as he is on the ice. he doesn't even deserve the 8.5M putting him next to the BIG 3 that NJ has offered. 7M is the max i would offer, he only skate 1 direction on the ice, if he skated both, then he would earn that extra money.

If he does go back, he will be DYING to come back to the NHL in a year or 2 once he realizes that playing over there is boring when you know that you are the best player in the league without any REAL competition. a big fish in a very little pond.

i would hate to see him go because he is an elite scorer but if he does leave i hope the door hits his ass on the way out.

yeah it's hard to take this rumour seriously since over the past 4 or 5 days we've heard "Rumour: Kovalchuk close to signing with Isles" and "Report: Kovalchuk close to signing with Devils"

This would sting though. I gave up Loui Eriksson and MAF for Kovalchuk at the trade deadline last season.

TSN is saying that NYI showed interest, but never actually made an offer.

i found this tweet interesting and I am not certain about what it really means...someone might be able to expand better

    From @RusHockeyFans
In the KHL teams can put 1 contract out of the salary cap. For SKA that player will be Nabokov, I suppose. Does it mean no Kovalchuk in SKA?
