    Default Bernier vs. Quick

Bernier got his second shutout of the playoffs last night for the Monarchs. He's 7-2-0 with a 1.54 GAA and .950 SV% through the first 9 games.

During the regular season, he was 30-21-6 with a 2.03 GAA, .936 SV% and 9 SHO. That's the best SV% in the AHL and most shutouts, along with the second best GAA and third most wins. He went 3-0-0 with a 1.30 GAA, .957 SV% and 1 SHO in the NHL this year.

Bernier has been getting lots of experience over the past couple years in the AHL and there is no doubt he'll be on the Kings roster next year.

Are there many out there who believe Quick is the Kings' goalie of the future? He's solid, but I think it's only a matter of time before Bernier takes over.

Quick is an adequate starter for their solid defensive system, but Bernier will be the man within a couple years.

I think Bernier will take the reins as the number 1 guy by the start of the 2011-2012 season. Alot will depend on how he performs this coming season, provided he has a good pre-season I can see him getting the backup job in LA and they wont work Quick as much as they did this year cause it showed in the playoffs, i would predict about 60 starts fo quick and the remainder going to Bernier. However I honestly do think the Kings will listen to offers for both this summer and if the price is right trade one of the two and get a vet for backup. I am also bias cause I have Bernier and I think he has the potential to be a top 3 tender in the show.

    That's my thinking as well.

And I really hope we're all correct, cuz I just traded Quick for 6th overall (among other items exchanged)

10000000% Bernier. Guy is fantastic. There was never a doubt that Quick was a stop gap, and his playoff performance showed why. That being said, Quick will be a fantastic backup for them if he can keep his head screwed on straight.

LMAO, nothing else needed to say here. As of 5:51 EST, it's 19-0 in favor of Bernier.

I figured Bernier would win easily, but I didn't expect it to be unanimous.

So I definitely want to draft Bernier next year, but where should he be taken in drafts?

I was planning on keeping Quick, but I also have Steve Mason and Carey Price...

I don't believe for a minute that Quick is the starter of the future for the Kings. He might be if Bernier wasn't in the pipeline but I don't think he is all that good.

Bernier is the future but theres probably going to be a few seasons of 50-50 , 60-40 split of games played between them

an ideal situation would be to own them both

I wonder if Quick keeps improving, if he can force the organization into a tough decision much like Halak in MTL...

Unlikely, but should at least be mentioned.

Agreed. I voted Bernier instantly, but we cant rule out the possibility of Quick being the guy.
He's only 24, young for a goalie; was a 3rd round pick, which is good considering how few goalies are taken in the first 2 rounds each year; led his NCAA team to the championship game but lost; and posted similar numbers as Bernier in the AHL, altho he never played a full season in the AHL so it's hard too compare.
He had a great season. His secondary stats arent great but a lot of that is the Kings style of play, they dont allow many shots and are great at blocking them. Brian Burke picked Quick over Anderson for the olympic team, sure it was a pretty meaningless pick as the 3rd goalie, and was before Anderson's great playoff, but still something to consider.

I think quick is a pretty good goalie. Is a better goalie than some of starters in the nhl but he is frankly just not as skilled as bernier is. If he was on a dif team it would be a hole different story but he isn't. I personally think he has a 3 year 2 million dollar contract so he will eithe rbe moved after this next season depending on berniers development or he will be during the next season. It will be an easy contract to move but he jsut wont be a starter for las. I do belive he will be a starter in the nhl tho just not in la.
